I’m currently moving my Plex Server to a new machine. At the moment it runs Linux Mint, only because I now the operating system relativly well. My drives are connected via a RAID card in RAID 5.
I can access the files fine on the server, but when I set Plex to look at them it shows nothing. This is clearly something to do with permission. I have tried giving plex read and write permission for folder (even though it doesn’t need it) and I have tried adding the plex user to my group (although I am not sure if it worked.)
Running ls -l shows:
total 28
drwxrwxrwx 4 mint plex 4096 Sep 7 16:13 Anime
drwxrwxrwx 2 mint plex 4096 Sep 9 14:32 Films
drwxrwxrwx 11 mint plex 4096 Sep 7 17:02 TV
drwx------ 2 root root 16384 Sep 6 20:07 lost+found
I know it is not good to have read write on everything but I was just playing around and once this is sorted out I will stop being so free with my permissions.
That has not worked, I followed the guide line for line. The only thing I can’t do is reboot as my os is not persistant.
running ls -l again has change something though:
drw-r--r-- 4 mint mint 4096 Sep 7 16:13 Anime
drw-r--r-- 2 mint mint 4096 Sep 9 14:32 Films
drw-r--r-- 11 mint mint 4096 Sep 7 17:02 TV
drw-r--r-- 2 mint mint 16384 Sep 6 20:07 lost+found
Sorry, ignore what I just said. I am on a live usb stick but I have persistant storage. My server has no spare power for any sata devices annoyingly.
I managed to get
drwxr-xr-x 4 mint mint 4096 Sep 7 16:13 Anime
drwxr-xr-x 2 mint mint 4096 Sep 9 14:32 Films
drwxr-xr-x 11 mint mint 4096 Sep 7 17:02 TV
drw-r--r-- 2 mint mint 16384 Sep 6 20:07 lost+found
instead. But no luck with Plex actually seeing any of the files. I think the permissions on the files themselves are still wrong: -rw-r--r-- 1 mint mint 3139517351 Sep 7 16:37 'Ant-Man (2015).mkv' is one of the files for example.
