Plex clients freeze during playback no matter what device or media is used

Server Version#: 1.18.2.2029
Player Version#: 2.10.1 (13626) [Apple TV 4K]
NAS: QNAP TS453-A with firmware 4.4.1 (20191109)

I have been having this issue for the last couple of months where when I play either a TV show or a movie file (no matter what format, but have tried with .mkv and .m4v), anything I play will play fine for a few minutes and then freeze for a few seconds, and then resume a few seconds further into the video, and repeat this behavior. So like if someone is talking, the video freezes and then when it picks back up, I’ve missed what they’ve said because of the initial freeze.

I know this is not with a file format or anything like that, because movies I have watched from years ago which never had this issue, are now having the issue.

My environment changed - I went from a 1gbps internet connection up/down to a 1gb down/30mb upload connection, but I also am not sure if that matters or not, because when these issues are happening, they’re happening when playing back media locally.

The other thing that changed is that I went from using an ISP modem/router to using Google Wifi pods. So I am not sure if that has something to do with it. Please keep in mind that my devices are all hardwired so I am not watching Plex via wifi at all. I have a Vizio smart tv, an Apple TV 4K, and an XBOX One, all of which can reproduce the issue. So i am trying to find out if there’s a setting that needs to be tweaked on the Plex server-side, or if it’s something else.

Please help as this has become super annoying.

Thanks,

Andrew

My first guess without looking at your logs would be your issues are related to QTS-4.4.1, and they likely started when you upgraded to it. There have been a number of threads here about how 4.3.6 is what Plex feels is working. I think ChuckPA took one of them down though, a sticky about 4.4.1.

I’m still on 4.3.6-1070 on my TS-451+, and I chose not to upgrade to 4.4.1 until after QNAP release three patches for it and it’s after New Years.

That being said, we can look at your PMS debug logs if you like.
And you could start preparing to roll back to 4.3.6-1070.
