Plex connect DNS replacement.

plexconnect

#1

Does anyone have a proper write of up to replace the the PlexConnect DNS server with Apple Server DNS.

FYI I know how to configure Apple server app just need addresses and routes.

#2

It depends what app you are intercepting and if you want to prevent atv updates

#3

macOS server for DNS and open Plex connect.

There are some instructions for Synology users, probably you can adapt them for your case. See post #1 in

By intersept i mean the app are you wanted to user for plexconnect ? example if you are using trailers you need to set your dns server to redirect http://trailers.apple.com:80 to the ip of your plexconnect host and also https://trailers.apple.com:443

that will get the basics running if you want to intercept the icon you will need to add a1.phobos.apple.com to plexconnect ip and if you want to stop updates you will need to add mesu.apple.com appldnld.apple.com appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net but to 127.0.0.1

Ok.
And can use openplex connect to disable the DNS server (can’t see any where obvious) like a script or command?

#9

if you go to plexconnect settings file and the change enable_dnsserver to False that would turn plexconnects dns server off for you.

#10

Thanks. I noted. The https:// DNS record. A typical DNS cannot distinguish between ports.
Do you see this being a problem?
Also in the past I have noted the PLEX connect DNS server runs on a separate IP to the PMS. This won’t be possible. The DNS and PMS will be the same IP.

You need to redirect trailers.apple.com and atv.plexconnect to the IP of your Mac, no port is needed. Disable the DNS service in PlexConnect (enable_dnsserver parameter) so that PlexConnect does not try to listen to port 53. PlexConnect needs to listen to ports 80 and 443, and no other application can use them, otherwise there are some additional settings to be done.
