Plex consumes too much ram (nonpaged pool)

hi everyone,
im using my pc as my plex server, which contains 32gb ram.
i noticed that whenever i play any movie, plex starts allocating memory under “nonpaged pool” (according to PoolMon), the bigger the file, the more memory it consumes. the problem starts with 35gb+ files, since when i play them, after a few minutes my pc gets to 100% ram consumption, then it gets rid of all the info plex saved on the ram which eventually leads to connection loss (idk why tbh) and the movie just stops due to no connection.

i always set direct play and direct stream to be enabled.
i tried turning transcoding on and off,
i tried restoring plex settings to default,
i tried having the movies saved on different drives (ssd, hdd, external hdd),
but non of the above changed anything.

i attached debug loggings, and a video that demonstrates whats going on with my ram as a large file is played through plex.

the video: וידאו ללא כותרת - נוצר באמצעות Clipchamp (1)

please help. thanks in advance!

edit: it only happens while i enable direct play.

That’s a massive file.

Temporarily uninstall whatever 3rd-party antivirus and security software is installed, reboot, see if the issue persists.

Any other system optimization things installed? Any fancy weird network systems or accelerators or ___________? Any software RAID or optimization or ramdisks or anything?

This feels like bad filter driver behavior.

unbelievable! i uninstalled the antivirus and the problem was solved.
yet, after re-installing the problem appeared again.
does that mean i cant have this antivirus if i wanna direct play through plex? i use bitdefender antivirus.

thanks!

Honestly, there is not much sense in using a 3rd-party anti virus software on Windows. The inbuilt Windows Defender is adequate for the average user.

well, idk, since i download all sort of crap i feel safer having it… do you think its something that could be solved by changing a few settings? for some reason even disabling the AV didnt help, but only uninstalling it completely

That’s what an average user does. Windows Defender is still adequate for that.
(A good portion of common sense in the user does help, too.)

I doubt it.

I agree with Otto. Third party antivirus is so bad that it was my first guess!
