Plex Corrupting My Files

Yes, I know what you’re going to say ‘Plex couldn’t corrupt your files, it only reads them’ - but hear me out. I’ve been troubleshooting this nonstop for a week now.

It started with me realizing a ton of recent REMUXs were broken. They would pixelate / skip every 20-30 secs or so during direct play. Transcoding them would do nothing as well. Playing them outside of Plex via VLC also did nothing.

So I started re-creating the process of how they get into my Plex in the first place. I did this 3x with 3 separate files that were all corrupted (post-Plex-import).

  • Re-downloaded the fresh torrents to my Mac. Files are clean.
  • Re-named and transferred files to my Synology NAS. Files are clean.
  • Placed them in my Plex folder. Scanned / Analyzed the library. Files are corrupted.

This is such a bummer. I don’t know how far back the broken files go now, but it seems to be a large portion of my library. I’m so disappointed. Does anyone have an idea of what I might be able to do to stop Plex from doing this to new imports?

How files that pixelate/skip look.

You’re probably running into this Mac-specific problem with the recent versions of qBittorrent.

I will try downloading the same files via Transmission and see if it does better.
