Plex crashes, then service gets stuck on "deactivating" and only a full shutdown of the system fixes it

Hi.

I have a problem with my Plex system using Linux 16.04. This has happened twice, and on both times the server required a hard reboot of the entire machine to fix it, which isn’t ideal.

The server remains “active” when checking via service plexmediaserver status, but inaccessible via plex.tv or http://ip.address:32400/web.

When I try to forcefully stop the process it gets stuck for hours and just stays on “deactivating” when checking via service plexmediaserver status.

Any help on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated, but for now it looks like another hard reboot… sighs

Thanks for the logs. The last completed request was at 02:03:46 am. There should have been another one at 02:03:56 am (timeline playback update) and another at 02:04:06 am but these do not show in the log. I suspect it was a deadlock that resulted in more requests being processed. I do have a development build that is going through testing at the moment before release as beta 1.13.4 which I can make available to you if you can confirm that it fixes the issue

You can wait for the next beta which should have this and another deadlock fix - or let me know which binary you need

I’ll test the development build if possible! Its a real pain having to hard reboot the server so many times a day! I can come back in 24hrs after installing to let you know if I’ve had another crash!

Plex Media Server version 1.13.4.5251 has just been released as beta. It has fixes for two deadlocks following investigations from diagnostics provided in this forum thread
