For the last maybe 2 weeks, I’ve noticed Plex crashing quite often.
It seems to be only occurring when adding new content to my library (but not every time). Sometimes it will crash with one new item, other times, when adding several.
It looks to have been successfully uploading a crash log every time, so I take that it hasn’t been PMS itself crashing (as it seems to be able to send the report out before shutting down).
The only error I can see looks to be in metadata with an unknown file type error but no information what that file is - and reading the forums people have said that can be ignored so I’m a little stumped.
Your logs indicate you have Plex trying to scan and process files which are in the state of active torrent downloading. These files, by definition, are incomplete and contain invalid data. Anything can happen during analysis – including crash.

Your better choice here:
Have your torrent downloading into a ‘working’ directory Plex doesn’t monitor.
When that work is complete, move the file(s) to the area Plex does monitor.
This way, when PMS does see the file, it will be complete and intact.
This is unfortunately not the case for me. My current method
Transmission using docker. On download complete, it moves from the docket container to a working folder. I then Copy from working folder into relevant library folder (TV, 4K, Movie, etc)
If you are suspecting it is in importing prior to completion, maybe the scanner is running whilst the files are still moving between folders.
If so, any ideas of how to delay a scan after a change in library detected?
The folder is in my library as it is where I am copying the finished file.
There is no move script - literally me manually using File Manager on Synology to move folders. I rarely do one at a time, usually in batches.
I use two IronWalf NAS drives in my Synology, so I guess there is a ‘transfer lag’ when moving between the working folder (volume 1) and my Plex library (volume 2) due to the batch moving of multiple files at once.
Any ideas on how I can adjust Plex to delay it’s scanning when it detects a file changed ?
Moving between the working dir on Volume1 and moving to the library dir on Volume2 would see a transfer delay because it’s copying between the two drives and that’s normal (read/write speeds etc).
I have now created a second working dir on volume 2 and then moving to the library folder within the same volume.
TL;DR - moving files between volumes takes too long, and scanning kicks in before completed.
Maybe it will help someone else in the future.

Just a heads up for anyone else reading this thread that is also finding this happening. If you are using StableBit DrivePool and are using the SSD Optimizer plugin - if content is being added to the library by Plex and DrivePool is balancing (moving off of the cache drives and onto the “archive” drives) this will also cause Plex to crash from my experience. Solution - figure out a way to have balancing be done less frequently and preferably after the content had been added to the library.
