Hey guys, over the past few days my plex media server will just stop playing a file after a few seconds. I’ve never had an issue with it in all the years I’ve had it running, and it seems to be with any video type including those I have played 100’s of times before.
The media server is set up on a mac mini running High Sierra, and I cast it using the IOS app to chrome cast (I actually have 2, same problems with both). Both Chromecasts are up to date, and the mac OS and plex app are both up to date.
If I restart it, the exact same problem occurs - plays for a few seconds and crashes… If I boot into the desktop web app, and cast from a browser, it seems to work ok. So I restart plex, sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn’t. I restart the mac, sometimes it plays sometimes it doesn’t… I can’t figure it out.
It’s so frustrating @Ryanito - it’s worked flawlessly for ages and now it just doesnt want to stay on. Weirdly I played a 2.5 hour movie yesterday with no problems
It seems to have worked and is more stable using casting. I played 5 files and they all played fine.
Do you want have an IP address reserved for your Plex in your router settings? I have 192.168… .14 which I use just for Plex and it’s wired but Ethernet too. Worth considering if you have not already done this
I have been having the same issues when casting from iOS.
What I have been doing which seems to work, is to not close the plex app or lock my phone for about 1 minute when the media starts casting. After this 1 minute I can do other things on my device or lock it, and it will keep casting.
Interesting. I tried the opposite (casting and closing immediately) and Iv had good results @pottsy1985 I will try you’re method too! Thanks in advance
