Hi,
are there any news for a Plex Desktop App compiled for Windows arm64 and all the new Qualcomm X Elite CPU´s and Laptops from Microsoft, Samsung, Asus and more? Would be great to have a fast and smooth UI on the 120hz Display
thank you and best regards
Unfortunately the two desktop apps rely on Qt for rendering the UI. Qt added support for Windows ARM64 in Qt6 but all of the Qt6 builds on Windows produce a tremendous amount of artifacting in the UI. This stems directly from their decision to not use the ANGLE library anymore in Qt6. So, we’ve had to keep using Qt5 which has no support for Windows ARM64.
So, a native app would have to wait behind a complete rewrite of the app to not use Qt.
Hi, I know asking for an ETA is taboo, but is a rewrite without Qt on the roadmap? Or is the planned shift to the more open API for PMS planned ahead of that; and instead letting client support (like for native windows on arm) and features be contributed by the community?
Frankly I have no reference for how bad the UI artifacting you say is other than it being “tremendous,” if it’s still usable, I probably wouldn’t mind running it in the meantime if it at least runs smoothly while still not hindering playback.
With emulation especially on battery, it is quite unresponsive on my snapdragon x plus.
I’d qualify it as not usable. There is a reason ANGLE exists and it’s complete removal from Qt6 makes me question if the future intent is to remove QtWebEngine in the future.
I cannot give you an ETA for the rewrite.
