I searched the forum for this but could not find anything for a feature request. When I authorize a managed user for the first time with plex.tv/link, it auto logins into my admin account instead of just showing the users on my server so they can select theirs. This is frustrating cause some of them do not know to log out of my admin account and it messes up my watched history when they inadvertent watch on my account. This only happens on the initial device authorization.
I learned this difference the hard way with adding people to My Home and adding friends.
To keep the universe separated, have them sign up for their own Plex accounts at Plex.tv. Once they’ve done that, ask them for the email address they used to sign up for the account. Go to your settings>users>friends and hit the Invite Friend button. Once they link their account, they’re good to go with their account on your server with zero access to anything that has to do with yours.
@AmazingRando24 there is a problem with getting your family members (children) to have a separate Plex account, in that in my house we have a Roku on each TV, and if any of us sit at that TV the Roku is logged into one Plex account and you simply select the “Managed User” plus a pin number. However if you give the child the log in credentials to log into a mobile device, table, phone etc. the log-in drops you immediately to the admin account, with no pin required. If they do not change user, they have access to restricted content above their age. I have been looking for an answer for some time now. Anyone have an answer?
It almost seems to me that we either need an alternate log-in method OPTION to authorize mobile devices like set top boxes with a 4 digit code displayed on mobile device screen and entered into a web browser on my account (this would save giving out the user account info). Or force admin pin at first log-in on mobile devices.
You might want to try to remove them from Home and re-add them. I recently did this with my girlfriend and now (annoyingly so) I am forced to select on every device I have.
