Plex does not handle file renaming

So I added some music to the library. Then I had to change the file names. Now Plex displays duplicate files, where the other half has no reference and cannot be played.

I have tried to update the Plex library to no avail. Also tried refresh metadata. How can I make Plex get this right again? The files are there… They are just renamed…

It’s a little strange though, that I have to empty and remove the whole recycle bin just to update some files.
What if I need to restore some of those files one day?

I was referring to Plex trash not computer.

Yeah I know. But if you empty the Plex trash your files are gone forever, no?

You’d have to read help file to learn more.

When you empty Plex trash, All that it deletes is the metadata downloaded (Pictures & info about the media) associated with the old file thats since been renamed/removed. Your music file (The one you renamed) is left where it is & doesn’t get moved or deleted by Plex.
