Plex DVD video output different than dvd player format

New to the forums. I don’t even know if I am in the right place. When I play back ripped-to-plex videos, they look different than when I play the dvd on a dvd player.

I usually rip to .mkv files. The plex playback doesn’t fill the whole screen like the dvd player does. What’s up with that?

How are you ripping them? Specify your exact process and tools.

Ahhh! Aspect ratios. Talk about confusing. I will put together a list of aspect ratios and how they look on Plex vs dvd player. I can start gathering that info during lunch today.
