Plex DVR - How does that work for you?

I’m looking for more info on the Plex DVR.
I am currently using a Tivo Bolt as a DVR and that works well for me. Could I replace the Tivo with a Plex Pass and DVR?
I am not yet a Plex Pass subscriber, but considering that.
I have a Samsung smart TV. I have seen a few post that indicate issues with Samsung and the Plex DVR.

Right now, I’m outside looking in, so any help or advice is appreciated! Thanks

You can use Plex as a DVR replacement, but you’ll need to buy a piece of hardware to use as a tuner first, such as the tuners offered by Silicon Dust, the HDHomerun line.

As it stands, the Plex DVR functionality is about 90-95% reliable in my opinion. It gets most everything right, including removing commercials. I’ve experienced some wonked recordings, and missed schedules. I don’t really use other options because OnDemand services normally make up for anything missed.

They’re constantly working on improving the offering. I consider it good enough, but it could be better.

@nortnarg - I like you had the intention of possibly replacing my Tivo. Plex DVR will not do it. Plex DVR doesn’t record encrypted channels. It also tends to be very fussy about signal quality. Moreso than my Tivos. I would consider the Plex DVR as my “B” team- I only use it to record things I don’t really care about, or for instances when my 4 tuner Tivo is busy. I also find frequent issues with the program schedule being inaccurate.

Thanks for the replies, It looks like I will stay with my Tivo Bolt for now. It works very well for me using an antenna to record OTA channels. (Tivo costs $14.99 mo. for the service) Just not clear on how the Plex DVR works.
