Plex Employee to Reset Server Certificate? "API rate limit exceeded" error

@LemonIcedTea

Your certificate has been reset.

Please restart server and all players.

@ChuckPa , it seems I am also experiencing the same issue that I’ve opened a new thread for here:

Using plexmediaserver_1.32.4.7195-7c8f9d3b6_amd64.deb

Trying to access server from outside of my network. It works for mac app and mobile devices while it fails for client from LG tv and from app.plex.tv (says Unable to connect to ā€œā€¦ā€ securely)

I see that in server logs:

Jul 05, 2023 13:23:32.317 [140278541925176] ERROR - CERT: Error acquiring new certificate: Failed to upload CSR: 429, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

</errors>

Please help.

@serafim_suhenky.com

I moved your post here to where the others are.

You have a problem with your server not being able to save the certificate.
Every time you restart it, it asks for a new one.

Plex.tv will only grant 15 ( 15 per 3 months) before it makes you stop until manual intervention with support is required to correct the problem.

I have reset your certificate but you must find the root problem
(permissions problem) in order to fix this.

@Ionut_David

  1. You can delete the other thread. There’s nothing gained by having separate threads for simple cert reset requests. We’ll break out if there’s a bigger issue.

  2. I reset and verified Jumbo’s cert is ready

  3. You may restart the server and all clients.

@ChuckPa I created that thread before I knew of this API rate limit thing. Someone replied there to steer me to this thread. Also, it seems I don’t have permission to delete the thread, so I don’t know how to do that.

Anyway, server is back online now, everything seems to be working, thank you!

@Ionut_David

Thanks for getting back to me.

I’ve removed the other thread.

Thank you! I confirmed that fixed the issue.

I seem to be having a similar cert issue - linuxserver.io latest docker container on Unraid:

Jul 06, 2023 18:32:57.543 [23404873997112] ERROR - [Req#a6] CERT: Error acquiring new certificate: Failed to upload CSR: 429, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

This seems to have happened on latest update - had been working flawlessly for many months beforehand.

@da573

Your certificate has been reset.

You may restart the server and all apps which use it.

@ChuckPa - Thanks for the response - things look a lot happier now.

@ChuckPa getting the same rate limit error on my end, can you take a look?

@jarizw

Every time you restart the container, you are pulling a new certificate.

This tells me it can’t save the certificate it’s getting (permissions problem)

Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache/cert-v2.p12

Time to go hunting in there and find then fix the root problem.

I have reset your certificate.
After you fix the root problem, restart the server.

Hey, correct, I was having disk space issues and didn’t fix it until just now. Not getting any cert expiration errors anymore so you resetting it seems to have done the trick, thanks!

Would it be possible to reset my cert please? I was following a different thread for a solution to my problem, deleted cert-v2.p12, all issues resolved except cert-v2.p12 wasn’t recreated after restart (and no SSL) and assumed I have hit the limit of issues within the timeframe. Thank you!

Hi @ChuckPa , I“ve been having problems connecting securely from my iOS devices to my local server and read about problems with the certificate ¿would you be able to check if the problem is the certificate?

Thanks in advance.

@javier_e_h

Your server looks fine.

I will presume (please confirm), you can open the browser on your computer and access it correctly.

What I see is that Remote Access isn’t enabled / working.

If you have your iOS devices on your home WiFi with your server (Windows) then the first place to look is your Windows Firewall.

Have you read this?

https://support.plex.tv/articles/201543147-what-network-ports-do-i-need-to-allow-through-my-firewall

@ChuckPa

Browser works fine, but IĀ“ve never been able to make work remote access…

Thank you, indeed was a problem with the firewall, don“t know why because since I have the app everything worked flawlessly.

Does remote access now work correctly since you’ve changed the firewall ports?

No, the warning i“ve had since the beginning is about Double NAT, but i“ve talked with my ISP and the problem is not on their side, and even disabling firewall has never worked.
