Plex Certificate "404" -- Unable to obtain Certificate from cloud

This thread is to focus all Plex.tv "Unable to obtain certificate from cloud .
Error code 404.

Please state the name of the server when you post.

The distinctive signature is the “404” “CERT” error seen in the server log files immediately after restarting it.

There are a few other situations where the certificate is also at fault.

If in doubt.

  1. Verify DEBUG logging is ON
  2. Verify VERBOSE logging is OFF.
  3. Restart the server and let sit idle for 1 minute
  4. Download the logs ZIP file
  5. Attach it with your post.

Logs are attached. Still seeing the same message after several PMS restarts, and a reboot of the host.

Because this is a VM, you’re 100% default route -> gateway IP is correct?

Also, it would be really helpful if you enabled DEBUG logging again. I got a bare minimum of info in your logs. Log files have a max size regardless of flags. DEBUG on is the default and most useful to us.

To re-enable at this point,

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Edit Preferences.xml
  3. add logDebug="1" before the closing />
  4. Save
  5. Start PMS.

This line in your logs:

WARN - MyPlex: attempted a reachability check but we're not yet online.

is telling me the server doesn’t yet have internet connectivity.

Yes, the default route is correct and I am able to talk out:

# curl -I https://www.plex.tv/
HTTP/2 200

I’m happy to enable debug logging, though is there some way for me to DM you the logs? A little wary of putting debug logs on a public forum.

I have exactly the same problem. On a freenas installation. I even copied the URL it tries to fetch it from and inserted my Plex token and tried it in the web browser - error 404.

@chuckpa - I’m having the same could not fetch certificate from the cloud error and have lost secure connectivity to my plex after upgrading to the latest beta release. Is this something you can resolve the same way? Thx

Have you reviewed the logs?

Are you seeing ‘404’ or ‘429’ ?

If uncertain,

  1. Verify DEBUG logging ON, VERBOSE logging OFF
  2. Stop the server
  3. Give a minute for ports to close
  4. Start the server
  5. Wait 1 minute then get logs and attach here.
