Plex Fireside in the Forum 2024

Do the Plex apps not work through Microsoft’s x86 emulation? I’m kind of curious to know. I’ve been looking at the Qualcomm chips with intrigue, but it doesn’t seem clear to me that ARM is the future that Windows will solidify around. When Apple switched to their own ARM chips there was the solid understanding that all developers who intended to run code on macs would be migrating to the new architecture. I’m all for progress, but the two situations seem different. Interested to know what the Plex team thinks.

Just remembered another idea I had concerning Plex. I would love to be able to set my Plex server to automatically play the english sub for my anime that only have a japanese audio track. Seems like an easy feature to implement. Maybe a quick win?

This can already be done. For years, actually.

Yea, but I only want that setting on my anime library. Sorry. That wasn’t made clear.

It will not affect any items which have english audio.
Or which only have one audio stream overall.

Select Shown with Foreign Audio

This is a setting for the whole server though, right? I’m saying I only need it on one library in my server. I have some foreign films in other libraries which only have german or french audio, but I don’t want the sub enabled for them by default. The items in my anime library with only a japanese track? Yes, enable it for them.

I don’t know if I understand you correct. But Forced Subtitles get selected automatically for me (German audio and German Forced Subtitle in my case).

Why wouldn’t you want subtitles for foreign language audio?

Say a person doesn’t want subtitles on at all times, so has that setting off.

Specifically, for “Subtitle Mode” they have “Shown with Foreign Audio” enabled as that would be the closest option to allowing “Forced Subtitles”.

Then a media file has three tracks:

  • An English Video Track.
  • An English Audio Track.
  • An English Subtitle Track that is also flagged as “Forced” & “Default”.

Because the audio track isn’t “foreign”, it won’t use the “Forced” subtitles.

So only option would be to keep subtitles on all the time, but then that would keep subtitles on even when a “forced” track isn’t required.

What needs to be there for “Subtitle Mode” is “Use Forced Subtitles if Available”.

Yes, it will. “Shown with foreign Audio” will enable forced subtitles in the selected language.

This isn’t about media files with foreign audio.

This would be with all tracks sharing the same language.

I was referring to the specific case you mentioned.

If you have English selected as preference for audio and subtitles, and have subtitle mode set to “Shown with foreign Audio”, you will get the forced subtitles in English automatically.

I didn’t check the web-based player as I assumed it was the same. On that, I am wrong.

Then it seems like it could be a bug with the app-based players.
On the Shield, it appears to behave differently then.

Dear Plex leadership, technical staff, and all employees. I am delighted and honored to have this opportunity to talk to everyone, and I am very grateful for everyone’s day and night efforts to improve PLEX. I really like Plex. I have a small suggestion and question.
I am a user from China, and due to China’s network firewall, I am unable to use Plex in China. We are unable to resolve this issue. Plex officials can establish a white list for Chinese Mainland to connect to China, or set up an official server in China, or cancel the account verification service for Chinese users, so that we can directly connect to the Plex server and distribute keys to activate members, so that non members will not enjoy membership privileges, can also cancel the official media resource reservation metadata proxy, or can add an IP or domain name connection portal to clients and apps. I think it should be easier.
I like to listen to audio novels (mp3) recorded by the media, but the file name cannot be displayed in the Plexamp novel album as it is blank. This causes me to be unable to see the file name or indicate the location, which may be an error. I cannot find the method and strategy to set it up.
Can I add a clear logo on the Plex poster? Through this method, you can more intuitively distinguish whether a movie is in 4K or 1080p.
Thank you again for your dedication to Plex, which has enabled us to use such a perfect software. I wish Plex continued success and all the best

No it behaves exactly like described also on the Shield.

That is weird then.
I checked it and had someone else check their Shield, too.

It is a user-level setting. So you need to adapt it for every user account individually.
And auto selection only works if the track selector of that item hasn’t been previously manipulated manually by the user.
And changing this preference will probably not immediately change the Android display if it’s currently showing the very item in question on the screen.

Here’s a crazy request. Back in the days before streaming, I could have my video on and my audio on a different input on my receiver. That way I could watch nature shows with my own music in the background, instead of the narrator. Now, I have a soundbar that primarily stays on my HDMI input, but I can sort of achieve this by using a Bluetooth input on the soundbar, while my shows play. But it would be nice, if I could have a show playing and select audio from an album or a playlist in my Plex library, without having to mess with audio inputs on the sound bar. Would that be feasible in the Plex client?

Thank you for PMS product, I enjoy it and all the work that goes into it. My concerns are similar to most, I just want the current features of tvOS and iOS apps to work. I’m appreciative that the tvOS / 4kHDR issues is being worked on, but hope to see the other QOL improvements soon. Will Apple TV EVER get Auto Skip Intro? - #2 by BigWheel
One thing not mentioned though is “Remote Control: Advertise as Player,” needs to be toggled off and on every time you hope to use it. Plex on Apple TV 4K (2022) won't announce as player (to be controlled from Plex on other devices)
I would love to have these fixed/implemented sooner if possible. Than you for the product.
