Plex for Kodi

I confused what does this do? I use both Plex and Kodi and dont really understand what this add on does. Thoughts?

It is a Kodi Add-On, for people who like to use Kodi (for whatever reason, Kodi is am awesome media player.)

It allows a Kodi user to access media stored on his Plex Server like a regular Plex client does, without hacking the Kodi database, like other Plex-to-Kodi solutions do.

Once the Add-On is closed, Kodi is usable like Kodi is supposed to, without requiring any workarounds.

Oh ok I do like both Plex and Kodi. I use Kodi on my main TV and Plex on my Roku. I go back and forth on which one I like the best Kodi when I feel like tinkering and customizing skins and what not and Plex when I want super easy. I never thought about combining the two. I was told that Kodi isnt a server over at the Kodi forums however I have been using it as one sort of. I store all my media files on my windows pc and through a UPnP path am able to watch those file on other Kodi players in the house. I guess with Plex I can watch those files outside of my local network unlike Kodi. I dont know I guess this would benefit some.

For me this is great news. Because I have a lots of friends that also use Plex and I can see their media with this app without switching between kodi and plex apps. Also I can access my media from a Kodi box in my Raspberry Pi that I use when I am traveling.

This is awesome, especially from an Android perspective. Many Android devices cannot play proprietary codecs because of licensing/royalty issues. Plex for Android transcodes many audio/video streams because it relies on Android’s built-in audio/video support. Sure, you can have Plex use a external player, but this is a disjointed solution as it doesn’t support resume playback or marking as watched.

Enter Kodi Media Player and Plex for Kodi. Kodi is a very powerful media player, let alone all of its other features and capabilities. It will practically play anything on its own. The Plex for Kodi add-on solves all of the shortcomings of Android’s audio/video codec issues.

I have installed plex for kodi, but when playing movie I only hear audio and I have to exit plex in order to watch movie. It plays in background. Any ideas how to watch in plex?

Can the developers of this kodi app please make it so that i can set a device name. This would be a cool feature as i have several kodi boxes around my home. Also friends that share with me i can see whos who etc.

@niki/tashu Thats what happens to me! Play video, and it works ok. Skip to next video or play another one, it disappears and plays in the background… Not sure how to fix this

I ‘fixed’ it with updating kodi and libreelec; but this might be a fix:

Tentative fix for this. I was having this same issue 100% of the time, all video playback was occurring in the background outside of the add-on. I have a RPi3 with Kodi 16.1 and OpenElec v7.0.1. I accessed the Plex Add-on → Settings → Main ->Transcode Format and toggled it from ‘mkv’ to ‘hls’. Using the ‘hls’ option for transcoding seemed to solve this for my pi3 openelec setup. Video now plays within the add-on.

work on kodi 18 on xbox?
