Plex for Mac 1.45.0.3013 & 1.46.1.3056 Live TV & DVR EPG Display Skewed ~24 from "Now"

Please don’t think I was suggesting that you were wrong, merely (afflicted, being a software engineer) pondering “out loud” about potential contributing factors, as I first noticed the issue upon a Plex for Mac update.

I very much appreciate you taking the time with the matter—thank you.

Plex for Mac 1.49.1.3146 Live TV > Guide is still broken as a client of
PMS for Mac 1.28.0.5998 (released today 22 July 2022)

As usual, I tried Restarting the PMS for Mac host, Rescanning the OTA tuner channels, Refreshing the EPG, and Restarting the PMS for Mac host again.

. . .

I noticed another Plex date-time bug early this morning that I can’t know is related, but having fixed a lot of my own software initially failing to deal with timestamp (“TS”) subtleties, I’ll mention as the bug might be related.

There is a class of OTA Live TV shows recorded with the previous day’s date.

For example, Late Night with Seth Meyers airs in the Seattle market weekday very early mornings from 12:37am to 1:37am. Plex wrongly records the date as being the previous day’s date. This morning, Friday 22 July, at 12:37am, PMS was scheduled and did successfully record the entire hour OTA broadcast, but erroneously lists the episode in Plex for Mac and Plex for iOS as being released “July 21, 2022.”

The Plex for Mac DVR Schedule correctly displays the recorded episode in the TODAY column. Similarly, Plex for iOS correctly groups it near the beginning of the TODAY recordings.

. . .

(Ironically, this forum software just posted this Reply listing with the wrong date, yesterday “Jul 21.” Today is 22 July 2022, late afternoon, 4:59pm PDT [23:59 UTC].

Upon further edits of this post, the web site posting date changed to “Jul 22” at approximately 5pm PDT (ie, 20220723 00:00 UTC), so it appears that the web site host TS is off by almost exactly one entire day.

It appears that this bug is the same as reported 3 months ago by RobertB345 in the topic:

RobertB345 indicates his PMS server is using ET, so it seems to be demonstrating the same 00:00 UTC Live TV > Guide display bug. Other posters in RobertB345’s topic that have listed time specific details seem to correlate (eg, UK user with 12:30am – 1:00am issues, presumably BST [UTC +100])

SA2000, I’ve struggled with this Program Guide bug on MacOS for some time. Reviewing this thread and your posts confirms there is an issue at 0000 UTC with duplication of the prior guide listing, for ALL channels) being repeated at 0000 UTC. I see this issue in the guide view presented by Plex Media Server (MacOS) and the new Plex.app (MacOS). The old PMS (MacOS) install does NOT display this behavior. I’m keeping the PMS install just to have a functioning program guide. Hope this gets fixed soon! Thanks

I will have an alpha build for Plex Media Server 1.28.1 today or tomorrow which I will make available to you and @pl4151 - it should fix the duplicate airing after 00:00 utc and the misalignment after that

There may still be other issue for specific channels - as we had before for example

Gracenote have indicated that they fixed the time-offset error on channel PosiTV that you reported here

If there remains any such issues - then I would need zip code, timezone used on the PMS machine and client app, lineup / guide name, channel number and channel name

@pl4151 @gashuebr

I have sent you alpha build: Plex Media Server 1.28.1.6005
Please try it and let me know if the issue is resolved

sa2000, so thank you very much for the alpha build. Given I have multiple Macs to install to, I setup a new install using the alpha build. The build corrects the 0000 UTC issue. Midnight rollovers are frequently troublesome. Again, Thank You very much.

sa2000,

Thank you.

Unfortunately, Plex for Apple TV 8.6 has been automatically installed, rendering Plex useless for my family: we can’t watch live OTA TV, watch recorded TV shows, nor watch live OTA TV shows that are being recorded.

I don’t dare risk installing the alpha release as another Apple TV app bug permutation.

The 00:00 UTC guide bug is still present in PMS for Mac 1.28.0.5999 that was released today (29 Jul 2022).

The fix is coming out in 1.28.1 for which there is an alpha build available

Could you get me some diagnostics of the problem with live TV DVR streaming and also watch recorded shows

Please see Apple TV logs article for capturing Plex for Apple TV logs
You will need to find out the IP Address of the Apple TV

Please also capture the server logs covering the time of the failure - with debug logging enabled beforehand

Thanks

sa2000,

I have posted test results and uploaded a ZIP archive containing log messages for PMS and Plex for Apple TV during two real-time tests yesterday: a failed attempt to play OTA Live TV real-time TV of a broadcast show that was not being recorded; and an attempt to play a successfully recorded OTA show recorded 4 days earlier:

Thank you for your personal time and efforts.

SA2000, Midnight rollover issues persist with PlexMediaServer-1.28.1.6005-efce67d3f-universal.zip. When a show straddles midnight rollover (0000 GMT) (example ends +30 minutes) the display offset error occurs. See

Thanks for the feedback. The issue I was looking into and getting fixed was the specific one of an airing ending at 00:00 UTC time. I was not aware of there being an issue with airings that crossed over 00:00 UTC.

I cannot read your screenshot - the resolution is very low
Could you give me country / zip code and lineup name and channel name and timezone and let me have a screenshot I can read - perhaps zip the jpg and and attach as zip. Also exactly what the error is and I will look into it

Thank You. I have reproduced the issue and have referred it to the Plex Web / Desktop app team

sa2000,

This 00:00 UTC Guide Display bug appears to be fully resolved upon the installation of PMS for Mac 1.28.1.6018 serving Plex for Mac 1.50.1.3176.

Thank you very much for your diligence, excellent communication, and follow-through.

May God continue to empower, protect and bless you, your associates and families.

Thanks for the confirmation for the fix for the issue relating to airings that end at 00:00 UTC

What PMS for Mac version should be used now?

I have PMS for Mac 1.28.1.6018 (released “July 28, 2022”; I first saw listed on DL page 3 Aug 2022) running now, but I see that the PMS for Mac download page later reverted back to version 1.28.0.5999 (released “July 29, 2022”).

The current public release is 1.28.1.6104

The current beta release is 1.28.2.6103
