I’m able to sync programs to iOS, Android, and Windows Plex clients. I’m not able to sync programs to Plex for Mac. Is this expected behavior?
Plex for Mac & Windows downloads media instead of syncing.
Plex Docs → Windows & Mac Desktop → Download Content for Offline Access.
Not sure what you’re looking at. I take it this shows you have 2 items downloaded to a Plex for Windows client?
Beyond that… what FordGuy61 posted is correct:
No syncing for the desktop clients of Plex… syncing involves optimizing your media for a mobile client. On the desktop clients, Plex will simply download the files.
When you download an item you will notice it’ll show as activity in the client but not as a conversion/sync item under Settings > [Server Name] > Status > Sync / Conversions.

… download will take a moment, progress is showing in the activity popup, the download icon on the movie poster and the actual downloads section…
The screenshot you posted is from the discontinued Plex for Windows and Windows Phone app, not Plex for Mac.
That app was last updated in May 2017 (announcement), discontinued in August 2019 (announcement), and no longer available in the Microsoft Windows Store.
Given the age of the client and the number of Plex Media Server updates since May 2017, there may be several features that no longer work.
Try the current desktop apps, Plex for Windows & Mac Desktop. Available at plex.tv/download.
So sync used to work in Plex for Windows, but now it doesn’t?
With the current desktop apps (Plex for Mac / Windows) you can download your media as described above.
The problem there is that I can download one program. As soon as I start a second download, the first program is moved to the trash. So, I’m left with the option of Plex Web.
You can download as many items as you want and how much storage you got.
Just successfully downloaded 1 album, 4 tv episodes and 3 movies in parallel… no issues, nothing moved to trash.
Are you getting some error message inside Plex?
I need to do a bit more testing, but it may only occur with large (1GB+) MPEG TS files.
Can anyone test downloading MPEG Transport Stream files with Plex for Windows or Plex for Mac?
I’ve remuxed one of my files to .ts using VLC (h264/aac content, approx. 1.3 GB). Added the file and downloaded it successfully.
Can you try to re-download that file of yours and collect the Plex client logs afterwards to upload them here?
Unrelated to any potential .TS issues, but commenting because this confused me earlier:
Unless you have it set to a lower video quality.
Sadly it doesn’t show as a Conversion/Sync job, even when one is being performed.
Client download quality is controlled via Settings → Plex for Mac/Windows → Downloads.
When this is Original it downloads directly.
If Video Quality is set to anything but Original, the Plex Server fires up a Transcoder, the download takes forever, and it’s obviously converting.
However, it doesn’t show up as an Optimization job or Conversion/Sync item.
Edit: This gives me an idea. If you’re having trouble with .TS files downloading, try reducing the quality and forcing it to be converted.
