Best news I’ve heard in a while! So excited to have one input to rule them all!
I wish you the best of luck and will most certainly donate once I get a shot to try it out.
I’m also in the Preview Program for the X1, so if you need help troubleshooting, let me know.
Cheers!
I just wanted to clarify, because media is picking this thread up:
- Tyson is a member of our community, but not an employee or a representative of Plex.
- As you all know, we've never talked about a new platform ahead of release (ever!)
you did talk about the WP8 app, which everybody assumed was an xb1 app;(
I will certainly be compiling a list so that I can get things into the hands of some testers as things progress.
I am still unfamiliar with the details on how to do outside testing for the Xbox One, however that is one of those things that I will be figuring out over the next few weeks with the help of ID@Xbox.
More focused on getting something working myself before I start to subject it upon others :P.
A bit of good news, I do have some code working on-device and playing a 30 second video clip using.
More of a first step, really, but need to start somewhere.
This is terrific news, something I've been hanging out for since the XB1 launch.
Happily put my hand up to do some beta testing at some point too! :D
This is indeed excellent news! The more devices we have running Plex clients the better. I'd love to see the Plex developers getting involved to make it an official Plex client.
[EDIT] I'm also in the Xbox One Preview program and would love to test this for you ;-) [/EDIT]
Throw my name into the hat! I'd love to help test an xbox one client. :)
Awesome News for both Plex and Microsoft.
I'm not going to run out and buy an Xbox one because of this news, but when the time comes that I do upgrade my console Xbox will now be the choice simple because of Plex inclusion. I'd bet money that all the Xbox one owners will be quick to install Plex once this goes live too.
Awesome initiative Tyson Edwards.
very exciting news indeed :D
looking forward for this
Great to hear! Test with the new media remote also, I love using that thing for moving around the Xbox more then the voice commands or gestures.
Great news !!!
Eager to see the the results
Great!!!!!!! I really like this.
This is amazing news, like everyone else I’d be happy to get involved in testing, I’m a . Net dev myself.
Fairly cryptic message from Plex themselves though, is that an implication that they are working on something themselves but just haven’t announced it yet?!

It reads to me like a standard response to people asking why Plex haven't released their own client. Nothing cryptic about it IMO - they're simply saying that they don't talk about their future plans. Think of it as a "neither confirm nor deny" type statement ;)
Great news!
Excellent news. Just shout when you need beta testers.
Excellent news indeed, to tie me over it needs media remote support, course play direct play where possible and update the watched status properly.
Everything else is nice to have
Sign me up for beta testing also, also in the Xbox one preview program.
Love it!
This is the best news to come out of Plex (even if unofficially) in a LONG time! I can't wait!
Plex is probably my absolute favorite application on any platform of all time. But I'm going to vent for a moment.
It's been about 5 months since the Xbox One came out and there have been zero developments from Plex to support it (not even something simple like DLNA PlayTo that third party apps support). Being a former developer I understand these things take time and was patently waiting. That is until Plex reveled support for the Amazon FireTV from day one. How can such a major platform as Xbox be ignored for so long and a brand new unproven product like FireTV have support from day one?!?!
I use my Xbox One for everything. I stream Hulu and Amazon Videos, use it to control and watch my over-the-air channels from the local broadcasts (with HDMI in), and occasionally play a game. Everything works great except for Plex which has become the only application I need to switch inputs and interfaces for. It's annoying and makes the ease of use go way down (especially for the wife).
I would be thrilled to have DLNA PlayTo from the mobile app, and hopefully one day an official Plex app for Xbox One, with or without voice control. But until then, THANK YOU so much for working on an unofficial app!
Oh man. This is great news. Like be Plex and can’t wait for an Xbox one app.
Sign me up for the beta.

If your allowed to and want it I can offer to help with development. I've had experience with streaming video to Windows 8 apps. (I was dealing with live video that needed to be absolutely low latency... huge pain). Shoot me a message if you'd be interested with some Dev help.
