xbox one

Just wanted to know the thoughts on the new Xbox one system since it is based on windows 8os if plex feels like they will be able to bring their app to the system?

Or if they are going to bring the app to the ps4 by chance?

Really? The system hasn't even been launched yet. I knew someone would create this thread. It is not Windows 8 OS it is a stripped down version of the "Windows OS" so you still need to create a app that is Microsoft signed or their would be rampent piracy if they didn't require that. Doing that does take time and cost a good chunk of money.

Next time wait until a system releases before asking a question. And if they were going to I am sure it wouldn't be announced until it was ready. If they said "yes we will for xbox one" There would be so many people asking "WHEN WHEN WHEN" and if a estimate is given people will wait until 12am that day and start complaining that it isn't avaliable. Just try to think like a developer before asking questions.

Not trying to be rude just try to think of the developers instead of being a user.

Hey ... I own a development company and yes I create web apps and dedicated apps which are based on windows is striped down or not architectures are the same and can be ported within the windows eco system. The fact they have a windows 8 app means the architecture is in place.

Shut up if you don't have anything worthwhile to say.

Go troll somewhere else. They can mention if they are even considering Xbox one app or ps4.

I agree with JJenson. This is more just overall general excitement over next gen Plex possibilities. I really hope that there will be someway (non-hacked) to put Plex onto either the new Xbox or PS4. If I can get Plex on one, I'm sold. I used to game a lot but now I'm mostly media with my huge Plex collection. If both can somehow get Plex, I think that I'd lean towards the Xbox One just because it has more media features and I don't necessarily care that much about the games (most games will be released on both platforms). I currently run Plex off my GTV Sony NZS-GS7 and I've been really wanting a more powerful client that can take a lot more of the load off my NAS. I was thinking about building an HTPC or getting a Mac Mini but those would be a similar price to new systems (most likely). I'd rather have the ability to play console games. So, here's hoping to more Plex on more platforms!

Watching the event this morning, I would certainly hope they release a pretty substantial SDK, there are a lot of places I could see cool integration with Kinect 2/Smart Glass and Plex. I don't know what the deal with the guy above is, they announced it this morning.

Thanks for the real comments. Yeah I want to have a dedicated app and the 64bit architecture and based on 8 is means the main architecture is a good possibility in being used to port to the Xbox one. I currently use the co-star and much rather use the Xbox one than this machine. I don’t like having PC on every TV either.

Probably....eventually....maybe

Not sure what more information you expect to gain a few hours after the Xbox announcement?

Are the Plex team likely to know anything more about the console that we do to provide any meaningful response?

Yes they might know if they plan to explore the option. That is all i am asking.

Road maps are great for development and if they are even considering this option would be good to know.

Plex never discusses roadmaps, has been mentioned many times in many threads so you can search if you want to know the reasons why.

Ok let’s put this simple I am requesting a native app for the xbox one.

Personally I love plex but if windows gets their clients right and the is no native app for plex this could be a deal breaker for many including myself. I have tried roku, Google tv (many versions), Android phones, Apple stuff. None of these work as well as my pc.

I love plex but getting sick of issues cause devices streaming are not good enough. This xbox one is more powerful than the Microsoft surface pro which streams amazing. So I want something that has the power to do this.

I guess if not I can always see if I can get permission to build one.

I do understand the demand for it but please understand that this information was just released and that it is not known yet how it will work with third party apps and if Microsoft will allow that at all at this point. When things are closer to release the Plex team will take a look at it and see if it is possible/doable at all.

Any update?

Any update?

You're brave!  :)

Any update?

No, and even if there is one, which there likely won't be, it wouldn't be until after the thing is released and someone can actually touch it and see how it works.

If you want it, you should prob actually vote for it.

Yikes, who pissed in these guys cornflakes? When I read comments like this makes me regret giving the developers money.  Thank goodness you guys aren't all like this.  I agree with JJensen, it's a perfectly reasonable request and if you can't deal with it, just don't reply.

btw, maybe you need some fresh air or something

who are "these guys"?

You can’t expect any sensible responses. The Plex team know as much as we do about the Xbox one.

It’s like me asking if Plex will work on windows 9. Who knows until they at least get to use it!

Plex is a (relatively) small development team with a strong fan base all requesting many different features/device support, you can’t blame them for not giving the Xbox one any attention before its release!

My point is the response could simply have been "yes, XBox One looks interesting, we will of course look into it after it's release." We aren't looking for a published Plex roadmap or guarantee development on an unreleased product, that is of course ridiculous.  But to berate someone, a paid subscriber no less, for a suggestion in a Feature Voting forum is crass!  Just be respectful

Yes, this is a nice way to respond. Thank you. :)

Just thought I’d point out that no one from the Plex dev team has respond on this thread, in case there was some confusion about that…

It seems unlikely to me that they wouldn’t at least look into building a client for the XBox One, especially since a Windows 8 client is already in active development.

That being said, I wouldn’t expect a response from the Plex dev team about this any time soon.
