Plex for xbox one view by folder

Are you kidding me? I just got an xbox one and spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to view by folder. How is this missing? By folder is the way 90% of of people will want to view their videos. Videos all have names like DC00231.mpg or Title01.mkv and likely they all have the same date (or otherwise arbitrary date) since they were copied or downloaded from somewhere else. But they are all in folders like “Disney trip 2011” or “Blah rip season 1”. Without this folder info it is completely impossible to find the vid you are looking for.

I keep getting close to buying Plex, but they keep disappointing me. The folder view on the PS3 worked for a while and then they broke it for a year. On the Roku you can’t see what titles you have viewed before without going into the details of each one. The idea of Plex is great, but each time I try to use it I find roadblocks that make it too painful to use.

I have been asking for folder view for months in this forum. I just purchased an Apple TV and was shocked to see that even though as far as I know the Apple App came out well after XBOX one, The Apple TV app has folder view working perfectly.
All we XBOX One users get in response is “why do you want folder view?” (This is what was asked in thread I started earlier in this forum)
I don’t understand why its not included, obviously people want it and it is implemented elsewhere.

I would like to chime in that I would greatly appreciate folder view on the xbox one (and xbox 360 for that matter but xbox one is more important). Not sure if maybe you guys just ported the 360 app the to xbox one? Regardless PLEASE add folder view on xbox one.

Thanks!

I’ll be honest it is very frustrating. I just have a jumbled mess of content on my upstairs tv running only xbox one with no smart tv apps. Folders deperately needed, as watching plex upstairs is potentially useless.

Just got my new XBOX One S and was appalled to find the Plex app does not offer folder browsing. This lack of functionality truly is unbelievable for a “modern” video streaming app. I wish StreamToMe would create an XBOX app, it’s simple interface blows Plex away, even if it doesn’t offer the organizational power of Plex. Please add browsing by folder ASAP!!!

Just found out this morning that there is no folder sort view in Plex. Unbelievable… I would happily pay for a Plex Pass if this was added. Any news on the folder view coming out this year?

Plex does not typically release that type of information, so all of us users would just be rehashing the rumor mill in regards to an actual release frame for that.

This has been listed as a known missing feature since AT LEAST October. While some features have been listed since July 2015 (possibly including this) and are yet to be to implemented so I wouldn’t hold your breath

Sorry mate, I only installed Plex for the first time this morning as a media server just to try out. I have been using Universal Media Server for the last couple of years and wanted to try something different, however, this no folder view is really a kick in the pants. At least I have Chromecast so I can play media via the folder view on my phone and PC, but I really wish they would do something about this on the Xbox One… I won’t be holding my breath either. From what it looks like, people having been requesting this for some time now.

No need to apologise, I’m just frustrated with the lack of support for this app

+1

Just adding my support for this feature to be added - it would particularly useful for content like workout videos, which aren’t included in TVDB etc.

this thread was created in october 2015, one year and a half later the issue is still there. I believe this happens due to small demographic (x1 has sold around 26 millions units so far), albeit in the other hand from a technical PoV this specific issue seems like a very simple problem, between 2 and 10 hours of coding depending on how the main code is structured, since it is relatively easy to fix this, I truly wonder why it hasn’t yet been properly addressed.

This is insane!

Seriously guys. How much time would it take to include a function like this to view by folder. Specially considering you have it already on other platforms.

Installed the plex app on my Xbox over a year ago and never kept using it because of this same issue. Thought I’d check it out today, and I see it still hasn’t been resolved. Unbelievable!

Jesus…can the dev’s at Plex please sort this out, basic media device functionality is missing here… we have had this for donkeys years with WD players…plus many other devices…this should have been basic design… come on.

+1 need this feature

How on earth is this still a missing “feature?” It should be automatically implemented in ANY version of plex, PERIOD. This isn’t the early ages of software development.

I understand the basic premise of plex to “organize” my files, but it’s definitely not how I want to view my file structure.

I have a ton of training videos that are all named 01-.mp4, it’s sooooo bulky to sort through 25 x 01- files before I can get to 02’s… it’s a huge pain in the a$$.

There is no meta information to download on these training files so there needs to be a better way.

Very disappointed. Just installed PLEX server and the XBOX ONE client, just to find out I cannot browse the video library by folder. I have a library of Fitness videos organized by folder that without this feature is impossible to navigate. I have Emby and wanted to give PLEX a try, but this is really making me think twice before making the commitment to PLEX.

Add me to the list of disappointed users. I’ve spent hours reorganizing my file structure and creating a bunch of different libraries just so I can find anything. It’s crazy that browse by folder is a “feature”, and not just how accessing files works. When I ran a computer through my TV, it was just click on the Movies shortcut to the network movie folder, open the correct movie folder and double click to play. When I ran Universal Media Player, I just pointed the server to my network movies folder, went to the app and browsed to the movie subfolder I wanted and clicked play. I am perPLEXed that this is so difficult. HAHHAHAHAHA! I’m laughing at my own pain!!!

Plex, you just keep getting sooo close to getting me to pay for your product… and then I find a fatal flaw. This is round 3 of my attempts to switch to Plex, this time only to find that the XBox One app can’t actually browse a folder. Where did Plex dig up developers that would overlook this simple core feature? How has Plex managed to ignore the requests of their users this long? My guess is that they really don’t want my money, and that’s why they once again won’t get it. On to search for a better player… again.

Hi Plex, not having the ability to view video by folders has resulted on Plex being rated as “close, but not good enough” from me. I have a lot of sports videos and home videos that only make sense to view by folder. They work fine in the web browser client, the windows client, but not navigable in the xbox client. :frowning:

What is driving me nuts is the xbox client knows the videos are there - they appear in the “recently added videos” list, and I can navigate to one of the most recently added videos, but when I select the ellipse and attempt to navigate up to the parent folder (which it knows about as it lists the parent folder “Sports”) I get a message “You must be lost. We can’t find the page you are looking for

I am going to try using a media manager like MediaElch, coupled with xbmc nfo bundle to emulate a season-based tv show, but if I can’t get that to work I am going to take my hard-earned to an alternative. Has anyone had any luck with Emby, coupled with the Emby plugin for Kodi?
