I’m constantly getting frustrated with plex and how it deals with music tags. See attached screenshot of compilation album. Now I’ve stripped a fair bit of metadata from these files so they match exactly. Yet it still shows them up as different albums.
If I open groove music it shows it as ONE album.
You must verify that all tracks of this album have identical content in the
‘Album Artist’ (this is not the same as ‘Artist’)
and
‘Album Title’
meta tags.
Which means, you cannot put Disc 1 or similar into the ‘Album Title’ tag. There is a special meta tag, just for the disc number. Use this instead.
There must be also ‘track number’ tags present in all files.
All tracks of one particular album must be stored within one common folder on disk.
Once you have made sure about that, either
perform the Plex Dance light (omit step 4)
or simply ‘merge’ the two albums in Plex.

OK, followed instructions with the “Album Artist” & “Album title” tag and it still showed many albums. I wasn’t aware of the merge option which resolved my issue. Thanks for that.
You might want to instruct Plex to use your files’ embedded metadata instead of info from last.fm or Gracenote.
