Plex HDD Upgrade

Hi at all,

I wanted to upgrade my HDDs. Since I tagged several movies manually, how do I keep them without having to do this all again when I copy the movies to my newer (bigger) HDD?
Can I simply close PMS, copy everything over and rename the drive letter to the previous one so Plex won’t notice anything has changed?

best wishes!

That’s a good plan.

Make sure to disable automatic and periodic library updates as well as ’ Empty trash automatically after every scan’ during the procedure.

Or just quit plex server before removing the old drive / changing the drive letter.

Yes, I will make sure to disable autostart of PMS (on my win 10 machine) for the HDD upgrade. I think just re-configuring drive letters will be the most convenient and reliable way to NOT having to add the movies plex did not like in the first place.

Don’t be impatient. of course the size of your library is relevant. My plex server folder - not my actual media, is over 1,000,000 files. if takes awhile!
