I am using the Android Plex app to access my server remotely and cast to a television with Chromecast.

There is a very strange issue in that I can cast films to the television with no issues provided that they are shorter than 2h in run time! Very strange as the device that I am casting it from will play the file with no issue remotely so long as I am not casting and I can cast films with run time shorter than 2h no problem. It seems like a bug in the software rather than something that I can get a solution for. Would really appreciate if the team fixed it.

I believe that is happening because the CC app isn’t able to identify the duration of your movie and the file is not being direct played. Plex has a 2 hr default to prevent the transcoder from just running forever. You can increase this value in the advanced settings. See Advanced, Hidden Server Settings | Plex Support.

You’ll want the parameter “TranscoderDefaultDuration”. The default is 120. Set it to something higher. Don’t set it too hogh or like I said, id the file has an issue and doesn’t send a EOF signal, playback will keep going (just blank) until it hits the limit.
