ha, just put the option in the UI, you’ve probably spent more time arguing this auto detect than the time it would take to put in. the auto detect has never worked as some people use AVRs between them and their TV. just let people choose to override it not buried in some google search to find out that this mpv.conf even exists. some people just aren’t that technical
cool thumbs up
thats fair i suppose, however i had no idea plex even used it. would have never known to even start looking at this documentation if i didnt have to google how to change to limited color range. its just not clear. maybe in the settings there is a banner that states 'hey, btw, we use mpv for playing, you can modify many of these settings in mpv.conf, see ‘hfeaifa’ for the details that can be put in there
no, those seem fair. i went through openPHT and realized there are some settings in there that likely aren’t applicable anymore, nor was i ever able to really understand why some of them were even there. i’m fine if you want to fight overscan, and even center channel as that can be set via other mechanisms, but crushing blacks for limited v full is something i feel needs to be a simple tick box
i think we are saying the same thing. for people who have multi monitor, i believe windowed full screen allows the mouse to travel to the other screen without locking it in. vs a full screen which would. i may be completely butchering the behavior, but most video games even have this, as did openPHT
I receive the following error when my 1.4.1 HTPC app crashes. Not sure what is causing it. Hoping someone can help based off of my log. My assumption is that the auto update function is crashing it. I will try disabling it and see what happens

I’m also suffering with jittery playback with Plex HTPC on a 3090 RTX, AMD 5900, 64GB RAM. If that can’t brute force the problem then I don’t know what can?
I noticed that jittery playback seems to happen either immediately when playback starts, or when I skip forward or backwards. Stopping playback and then restarting seems to fix the issue until pausing of skipping through the file.
Latest issue I am facing is the if the synopsis of the movie is large. The “Read More” option only shows blank when clicked. All other Plex clients work fine.
Version 1.5.1.2629-7d88eee0 was just released (Introducing Plex HTPC!). The auto-update mechanism should work when you restart the app but if not you can grab it from the above link. The notable changes are:
Bumped web-tv-client to 5.24.1-73a7aec
MPV on Mac will use the no-copy videotoolbox rendering with hardware decoding.
MPV on Windows will use the no-copy d3d11-egl and dxva2-egl rendering with hardware decoding.
The autoupdater still seems to crash my app on 1.5.1 so I have disabled it again. I have tried the hardware decoding feature and it is still jittery. I get jitter right out of the gate. I have a Ryzen 3700x with a RTX 2070 Super. The app should be more than happy with those specs not to mention someone else is utilizing a 3090 and getting the same results. Probably not working as intended I would assume
Seems that several people didn’t read my post from 4 days ago:
As per the details I mention in that post, one of the other devs expressed a desire to dig into this before I say anything. So I’ll not be posting that for now.
Another thing I’ve just come across. When using my remote, I cannot hold the direction to move faster. I have to press to move with each click.
Like, on the PMP on my laptop the HTPC remote and keyboard both allow fast scrolling by holding the down button. But on Plex HTPC it does not work that way.
I came here specifically to comment on this first bullet point. I have a 100" screen so it would be nice to have the option to scale down the icon size so I can fit more on the screen!
The other thing I really want to see is a true fast forward. It may be a small thing to most but I liked when I could play in x2 x4 x8 x16 and x32 speeds rather than skipping forward.
Tested the latest version, still on the low end for video quality, stutter from too frame drops like the last couple of updates. will keep an eye on thread for updates, but stick with other htpc playback option for now.
I am also getting dropped frames and stuttering on very basic 1080 files generated from ChannelsDVR. Plex Web player, Kodi, ChannelsDVR web player are all fine.
To trigger it you have to either play a movie in the collection screen individually (not play on the collection), or simply play an individual movie from the movie library that resides in a collection.
Thanks for this new release.
I definitely think HTPC 1.5.1 is an improvement over the previous releases but playback is unfortunately still less smooth than PMP.
Also I notice HTPC is more taxing to CPU/GPU than PMP although Video Playback Quality is set to Low. Both players are set to Refresh Rate Switching and DirectPlay content.
Example using 1080p TV Show with HTPC: CPU 22% and GPU 44% (average).
Same 1080p TV Show sample with PMP: CPU 12% and GPU 24% (average).
