In 2016, four movies were released with the same title, “Split”. Now, when I add a movie with the file name split (2016).avi to my Plex library, Plex is choosing the wrong movie metadata to download from IMDB. Is there a way I can force Plex to select a different movie? How can I fix this?
You can use the “Fix Match…” option:
Then under “Search Options” enter the IMDb id in the title field and press Search:
That way you force Plex to lookup the metadata for that IMDb id.
Of the thousands of movies in my Plexiverse, ‘Split (2016)’ is one of about 5 I had to employ ‘Fix Match’ with (under the dots on the pre-play screen). This annoyed me so I did some research and found Split’s release was 01/20/2017, so I named it Split (2017) instead and it matched instantly.
Plex Movie will fail - IMDB has the wrong year. TMDB will win, because they have both years as valid release dates, but you will get an instant match with Split (2017) because none of the other Splits released in 2017. There’s some Split (2017) trivia for ya.
