Metadata manual download

Hi
Is there a way to manually search and download metadata for a selected movie and assign downloaded data to that movie?
Best regards
Mike

There is, in a way.
But it is only recommended as the last step.

First, you should try to correct the file name of your movie so it follows the best practices for file naming in Plex.
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/categories/200028098-Media-Preparation

For movies, this is at least
Official Title Of Movie (year).ext
Look up your movie at the IMDB, to get the definitively correct title and the right release year.

If your file is an mp4/m4v file, it may have embedded metadata which prevent a proper ‘matching’.
Either clear the embedded metadata out or tell Plex not to look at these first.
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Freebase
drag down the line ‘Local Media Assets’ to sit in the last (bottom) position of all ‘ticked’ lines.

Then perform the Plex Dance with the movie file(s).

Only after all that did not help, use the Fix Incorrect Match function,
click on Search Options
clear all input fields
put the IMDB ID into the ‘Title’ field and click on search

you get the IMDB ID on the IMDB website by looking up the movie. Then take a look at the address bar of your browser. It will contain something like this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0383574/
the number that follows after title/is the IMDB ID (including the prepended tt).

Sorry for lags. The idea behind the question is that imdb probably has one or more entry for selected movie. This is particullary visible when the movie is mismatched with its other versions (eg. Asterix and Cleopatra) or when local movie name is not available in imdb.
Anyway thanks for your time and solution.

That’s why it is crucial to always use the release year in brackets in the file name. It is very rare for two different movies with the same title to get released in the same year.
You should always use this naming style, and not just when problems with mismatches arise.

Also, IMDb usually has an extensive list of different countries’ titles. So this should usually make not much problems.
When in doubt, use either the original title of the movie from the country where it was made or the english version.
