Plex iOS 2026.10.0 no longer receiving Playback Started push notifications

Since updating the Plex iOS app to version 2026.10.0, I no longer receive “Playback Started” push notifications.

What I already verified:

  • Notifications are enabled in the Plex app

  • iOS notifications are allowed

  • “Push Notifications” is enabled on Plex Media Server

  • Remote access is working correctly

  • Plex server can reach notifications.plex.tv successfully

Plex Media Server logs show notifications are being sent successfully:

Push: Sending notification tv.plex.notification.playback.started to 1 users.
HTTP requesting POST https://notifications.plex.tv/api/v1/notifications
HTTP/1.1 201 response from POST https://notifications.plex.tv/api/v1/notifications

So the server side appears to be functioning correctly, but the iPhone never receives the push notification.

This worked normally before updating to 2026.10.0.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Environment:

  • Plex Media Server on Synology NAS

  • iPhone iOS latest version

  • Playback notifications enabled

  • Remote playback detection works normally

May be related, today I’ve noticed extreme delays on receiving notifications on iPhone of new additions to the Plex Library on my servers.

All the items were correctly identified, added and verified earlier, yet notifications didn’t appear until maybe 4-6 hours later.

I have also been experiencing severely delayed new media added notifications on iOS. Notifications are coming in around 6 or so hours late. Plex’s status page is showing no issues with push notifications. The traffic on my firewall is all green though.

Thought I was going crazy, last 2-3 days I’ve been getting push notifications later and later. I got one about ~6 hours later.

Notifications go to two iPads and one Android phone.

Last time the notifications completely broke, reinstalling the mobile apps did the trick, but I’ve done it on iOS and Android to no avail. Seems to be Plex side?

Also just for good measure, I updated the server (and cycled it) to latest (1.43.2.10687). No dice.

I’m seeing the same behavior here now.

Playback Started notifications eventually arrived, but around 4-5 hours late after the actual playback happened.

So it seems notifications are being delayed significantly rather than completely failing.

Same here since a few days. It takes hours for notifications to show up.

Same issue with notifications, delayed by many hours.

Chiming in here, I see the same delay with the Android app so looks like it is server based rather than iOS specific.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, turning notifications on and off, etc and no change so far.

the team that handles notifications systems backend are working on a solution.

Seems like they might have found the solution as notifications are pretty much instantaneous again now for me. Thanks and thanks to the team that solved this.

Update:

Playback Started notifications are now arriving almost instantly again on my devices.

I haven’t changed any settings on the server or client side, so it seems whatever was causing the delays may have been resolved.

The issue has returned. Playback Started notifications are delayed again after briefly working normally.
