Plex IOS app now tracking you

So why is my Plex App triggering the “ask app not to track” dialogue? What exactly were you looking to track?
It’s very dishonest and thank goodness Apple is there to warn us.

You have NO business to my data or sharing it to make money especially since I pay monthly for Plex Pass.

I mean why not put it in your newsletter? Tell me about it or what you are doing with it.

You are not suppose to be like Big Tech

Mind sharing some specifics about the circumstances where/when that happened?
From what I’ve seen there’s been no change for Plex. I also cannot reproduce this dialog on my iPhone w/ iOS 15.0.2 and Plex 7.24.1 – with both the tracking transparency option enabled and disabled.

Edit: I can actually reproduce. This message is only related to watching media from Plex’ video on demand service and relates to delivering ads during the free streaming.
Seems to be fully in line with and fully disclosed in Plex’ privacy policy.

News flash. They have venture capital investment dollars. They are BIG TECH in their market. They also added new people to their board.

Hence why I said not suppose to. I have been with Plex since almost the beginning. But thanks

Don’t need your attitude

Not good enough. It maybe in the policy. But they should mention it in a newsletter. BTW you will see this and this is why and when.

Also, it’s not related to just what your watching.

This is disheartening.
I try to distance myself from services and apps that are very liberal in data collection and tracking.
Please work on limiting and reducing tracking and allowing opt-outs, or rather opt-ins, if people want to use the ad-based streaming and let people like us be without invasive tracking/data collection.

I was looking into switching to Jellyfin, but recent developments have convinced me that Plex is currently serving me better, with Plexamp, pretty good UI/UX and really nice features.

This will not happen for legal reasons.
The “Legalese” in the privacy policy is unfortunately required by law.
There cannot be a different text in more common language, as it bears the risk of legally (i.e. as a lawyer understands it) contradicting the text in the privacy policy.

@tom80H above is correct in that this dialog only appears when you want to use one of the Plex video-on-demand offers for the first time.
Which means that it is only applicable to the use of these streamed media.
(And it does NOT apply when you purely use Plex to stream from your own server and servers of other Plex users which might be shared with your account.)

The on-demand-offerings are financed with ads.
And ads are connected to at least a minimum of tracking. What is tracked and how precise the tracking is, is explained in great detail in the privacy policy.

Let me make it clear that Plex’s privacy policy goes far above of what is required by law. This is because Plex wants to inform its users correctly, so they can make an informed decision. (No pun intended.)

Unfortunately, some users may find the volume of information in the privacy poliy deterring.
Some may even think that this greater volume in comparison to other companies means that Plex is collecting even more data than others.
But that couldn’t be further from the truth.
