I have multiple Plex servers running on the same network from two different computers (call them A and B ). In my home automation software (Savant), I need to tell the control profile the IP address of the server, and the IP address for the player. It only works when I use the IP address of the server on computer A. I can control either player (Plex Home Theater) by telling the automation system IP address A or B, but when I try and use IP address B for both the server and the player, it does not work. Any idea why it would only work with the server on computer A? When there are multiple Plex servers on the same network, does Plex pick a "default" server for communication? And is there a way to change this? I do not believe it is an issue with the automation system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I’ll just pop this here
caboose014 - does this still work?
I stumbled at the first part: couldn’t find guisettings.xml anywhere! The applications support folder seems quite empty. IP control (HTML) is turned on, in the menu system within plex, but i can’t get basic control. Done the LAN IP in inspector (the server), and the profile IP (the client) but no worky?!
Do i need to open ports in firewall?
@caboose014
please see above - many thanks
@Loosefix yes this still works, and is in use in many systems that I know of.
If your Applications Support folder is empty, you have more problems than not finding that file… You should have a folder here for every application you have installed on the machine.
No ports need to be opened on your firewall if you are on the same subnet, just follow the steps on github. You need to change the xml file according to the instructions on github otherwise PHT won’t open port 9090 for control. This profile is not for HTML control, its telnet on port 9090 - which by default is not enabled, and has no such option to enable on the PHT GUI (hence the need for editing the xml file).
Without finding and editing the xml file, unfortunately this profile will not work for you.
