Plex is failing to see a second external drive - do I have to delete and reinstall the media from that drive

This is really tough. I have no idea what to do. I’d be willing to add $5 to my fees to be able to “chat” with someone about problems. See, this is an example. Plex makes it impossible to get help. My problem is Plex will see and play one drive, but has quit recognizing the second drive. I’ve deleted a folder of movies thinking I’ll reinstall that folder, but I can’t get Plex to let me reinstall. I follow the instructions, but get “zip” for results.

Not surer I understand. I have run my PLEX for years with External drives. As long as mapped to the same drive whenever reboots it should work.

I actually have series and movies on multiple drives and sometimes have had 3 folders mapped to the same PLEX Library.

If Plex can’t see it, it sounds like a permissions issue. On Linux the user “Plex” needs read, write, and execute permissions on the media files and folders. Ive read that other operating systems use other user names, though I don’t remember what.
For myself, I had to set read, write, and execute permissions on the mount point of the drive as well.

I don’t know if any of this will help, but it will give something to look into.

Please start by mentioning the type of device where your plex server is running on.
The type of operating system is also very important.

I’m using a Dell Gaming desktop, with 2 external drives for “current TV”, and “movie storage”. Plex sees and plays “current Movies” fine, but can’t see “movie storage”. However the desktop can see and play “movie storage” files just fine, but Plex can’t.

Did you recently remove and re-plug the drive(s)?
If so, is it possible that the affected drive has gotten a different “drive letter” than it had before?
You can verify this by editing the Plex library which should point to the affected drive.
On the “Add Folders” tab you can see which drive letter the drive had previously.
Now compare this with the current drive letter of this drive (as shown in the Windows file explorer).

Are the two different? If so, you’ll have to change the drive letter of the affected drive. https://www.howtogeek.com/96298/assign-a-static-drive-letter-to-a-usb-drive-in-windows-7/

It could also be a good idea to exit the Plex server using its Windows task tray icon,
wait a few seconds and then restart it via the Start menu.
Because the server won’t notice any changed drive letter while it is running.
