PLEX masters please…New User here… I’ve had PLEX up and running on a different PC for about six months. Built a dedicated HTPC, transferred about 100 films onto the brand new computer (which operated flawless otherwise) but when I point PLEX to the drive on the new computer it does not show it. I can play them from the computer (on the player software) but PLEX isn’t seeing it. Any advice?
Just to be sure… this is actually about a Plex Media Server running on Windows? (usually the “Plex isn’t seeing some content” happen on Linux based systems and are rooted in permission issues)
Beyond that…
Are we talking about an internal or external drive (network attached storage, USB drives…)? If it’s an external drive… is the drive actually mapped to the local file system or just showing as e.g. a network share (\\My share\videos)?
As for the latter… Plex prefers its media mapped to a local drive
Hello… thanks for the reply.
Yes, to Windows and Internal (local) storage. When I map it shows the (D) drive but shows nothing there. Just to reiterate it is there and I can play the files through a windows media player.
In that case… let’s dig into the details:
Could you share some details about your actual folder structure on D:\ and the exact folder(s) added within Plex to that library? Maybe you can post a screenshot.
PS: just to rule out one more thing coming to mind… I suppose you’re running the Plex Media Server with your actual user and there’s no restricted permissions within D:\? Some users run Plex „as a service“ on their Windows machine using a different user account — so in theory it’s possible that what works for you / your account doesn’t work for Plex / the account running that service.
