Hi there!
I’ve currently run into a bit of trouble recently when activating scheduled tasks, which I previously disabled for performance reasons.
I’ve re-enabled it now that I have a faster storage solution so Plex can generate chapter thumbnails when I’m not using it.
The scheduled task started like planned, but after it ended I decided to extend the end hour because I know I won’t be using it much today so it can use more time to generate those thumbnails.
But I was surprised to see it started to generate chapter thumbnails for the exact same movie that it started with three hours ago!
So I let it run a bit, and after 1 whole hour, it is at ~25% of generating the thumbnail for the very first movie in my library!
For reference, the movie contains 16 chapters, and is ~60 GB in size (4K HDR Blu-Ray remuxed into an MKV container). I don’t get why this task could take so long, that means it’s taking about 15 minutes to generate a single chapter’s thumbnail, which is crazily slow.
I’m using Plex version 1.23.3.4707 on a Shield TV Pro (the Tegra X1 model), the storage is not directly connected it but mounted through my local network. The speed is about ~ 80 MB/s in read and ~ 110 MB/s in write (limited by gigabit ethernet, otherwise it’s 2~3x more). The random read and write speeds are higher than the majority of hard drives, so I don’t think this is an IO-related problem.
If I need to upload logs please indicate me which ones, I’ve dozens of megabytes of log files currently.
Thanks in advance for your help!
