Plex is trying to transcode 4k HEVC files instead of direct play

Just to confirm, the shield plays the movie all way through (When first added) without any issues so this deep analysis is causing the issue for no reason.

Thank you

Did this Deep Analysis not get used on the old (Default shield) app?

As it still plays the file on there even with the Deep Analysis data?

Any update please ?

Hi ddanielww, I’m facing the same your issue on my new Android TV (a TCL P725 with android 11 and the latest plex version available as client). On the server side I’m running the latest PMS Beta inside a Synology box.
After reading the whole thread I made a simple test to check if indeed it’s related to a bandwidth spike (and in my case it is).
Open the file that should play directly (be sure to have the option to play it without converting selected). Once the payback starts go to a different time of the video, select to convert it automatically and once loaded, do it again selecting to play it directly. Since the bandwidth rating is related to the part of the video you are watching, if it’s a single spike you should be able to play it directly.

The iPad definitely supports it. I ended up having to buy my wife one as I couldn’t find an Android based tablet that supported everything. It is definitely a crapshoot on Android and you’ll likely end up spending way more then you would if you just bought an iPad. I think I paid $280 for my wifes.

Only Samsung tablets support hevc 10-bit. On the bright side, an used s5e (as good as iPad m1 screen) can be found for around $220

@ddanielww

requiredBandwidths=“2147483647,2147483647,2147483647,2147483647,2147483647,2147483647,2147483647,2147483647”

That’s from your XML. Basically PMS is having trouble analyzing the audio in the file. There is a fix in PMS 1.24.1 to address cases like this. Not sure it will fix this specific issue but worth a shot. Install 1.24.1 then analyze the video again. Check the XML and see if these huge values go away.

Maybe you have some different info then me but I bought a Samsung tablet just a few weeks ago and that was not the case at all. Everything that we played on it that was HEVC 10 bit would force a transcode. The iPad doesn’t transcode anything. I bought it after the Samsung because of that. The only client I have seen that plays more files without transcoding is the Shield TV (2019) that I have in my living room.

What model do you have? I know for sure most ones on the S tab lineup can play (s5 or newer)

Couldn’t tell you for sure. I returned it the same day and bought the iPad. I have a MicroCenter very close to me :sweat_smile: I think it was one of the lower end ones as it was only like $200-250, but it was recently released and contained one of the midrange Snapdragon chips. So it should’ve worked. Even the Samsung customer support rep believed it would, but it definitely wouldn’t. Either way the iPad definitely has some distinct advantages. It is certainly more powerful then anything that I could find at the under $300 price point I was after. FYI I hate Apple so it hurts my soul a little to admit it was the best product :rofl:
