Plex Media Scanner crashes during scan in 1.32.5.7210

When I run /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex\ Media\ Scanner -s I get this error:

Since I wasn’t able to find anything on this forum or web searches, I rolled back to the previous version and it worked flawlessly…

Running into the same thing with plex_autoscan script. Hope this gets fixed soon

Full DEBUG logs ZIP files please ?

They are needed to give to the engineer.

The excerpt above does not provide sufficient detail.

This is transitional as the scanner moves from old Python to new C++. It’s a slow process to transition everything.

What is the best secure way to get you the log files? Just turned on debug logging so should have some by tomorrow at the latest.

I am having a similar issue using unraid with autoscan which autoscan is working fine, however plex media scanner is crashing.

Looking at my logs I don’t see anything weird. Any help would be much appreciated!

I investigated this further and discovered that they have no plans to implement a scan from the command line. The 's" command has been considered deprecated for a while, and they finally pulled the plug on it.

I just wish they had been more transparent about the removal of that option.

So for now I’m just setting up a timed scan to occur every 15 minutes. Not ideal, but it does work.

I cannot use dmp.log files. They tell me nothing.

  1. Confirm DEBUG logging is enabled (SAVE if you make changes)
  2. Make it scan and fail.
  3. Download the server logs ZIP file and attach it

I can work with that because I see what it’s doing. a dmp.log only tells me the crash report was uploaded.

PMS can auto detect changes if you’ve configured fs.inotify.max_user_watches correctly.

You can use my tool to help restore a recent backup to use as current.

It checks each of your available backups then presents you with the option of to use them for the restore.

The first you say “Yes” to is what it will use.

When restored, you can then scan files, refresh metadata and get the DB caught back up

If all the backups are damaged, you can try to repair but there are no guarantees.
