It seems that if the plex scanner finds a malformed flac file that plays just fine in vlc it crashes.

Would it be possible to obtain the file or a link so it can be downloaded and given with this report to Engineering?

Also please include the Plex logs ZIP file. Those are needed .

The dmp file is useless without knowing all the details of the host system it came from.

A problem like this was recently found and corrected but not in a PMS release.
I would like to verify if this has already been corrected or is a new one.

I seem to be having a similar issue since my unraid server hung up and had to be hard rebooted without shutting down plex first. Any advice what to do here?

Do i need to post my issue in a different thread then? Or is this the same thing as the OP… it seemed like a similar error. If this is the same. How best to determine the file or files that is causing the error and crash?

The best way to diagnose if it’s one particular file… (this is a bit of a pain to figure out)

  1. Create a folder somewhere to put test media in
  2. Create a music library section which points only to that new folder.

Now, one by one,

  1. Copy a suspect FLAC file into it.
  2. Let PMS scan
  3. Verify PMS was able to scan the file and add it without crashing.
  4. When PMS does fail, you’ll know which file caused it.

wow… yeah… that would be years one file at a time for music. The scanner error logs seem to be created at the same time of night around 2am i though it might have been just the process of scanning the database itself not just a single file.

Now i hope this isn’t wasting your time… but looking at the logs I’ve had a continual 2 parsing errors for two of my 3 Amazon firesticks showing up in the logs every 30 seconds since this started happening as well but at the time of the crash and media scanner crash report the parsing error codes are interrupted by the following listings some mkv files. then goes back to the same repetition of the parsing errors:

man … that looks alot more jumbled posted here than it did on my screen.
but the parsing errors continue until 2am again last night where this single mkv file error shows instead of the whole list when the crash report is made.

Attaching the logs ZIP file is best. I can search through it very quicky at the different scanner activitties

This looks more like an exec bit problem and not a codec/corrupt file issue at all.

Is the filesystem where the container’s data is stored, mounted with the exec option?

Codecs are shared libraries.
Linux requires shared libraries to be loaded from a file system which provides “exec” privilege.

you might have to dumb that down a bit more… sorry.

The plex data aka the Library and Transcode folders are on an SSD mounted using unassigned devices in unraid instead of being stored on the cache disks. Theres never been a crash till after the hard reboot. its been running like this for years no issue till then.

wow. I don’t know unraid at all.

I will try to setup a VM and see what I can learn but this is all new territory to me.

Give me some time to see what I can come up with?

PS: Do I need purchase a license ?
PPS: I don’t have Mac or Windows. How do I get this started?

you don’t need one for first 30 days… after that license fees are based on the amount of attached storage devices you want in your array up to 6, 12, or unlimited

you don’t need mac or windows to run it. just a USB drive you can put the unraid os on to use as the boot drive for the unraid server.
