Well had some time to test it a bit more this afternoon, due to low bandwidth (5mbps) I need to transcode everything. Watched some 720P content (Ancient Aliens) with my usual settings and I’m impressed, where normally it would show artifact (due to low 720p source and transcoding) on this preview it almost didn’t show any artifacting. If this is due to the i9 9900K newer iGPU or the new transcoder I don’t know, if I compare it to the i7 8700 I had before it’s much better (both those should have the same iGPU)
For kicks I also tested a 4K remux with HDR, transcoding down to 720P again no artifacts, bland colors though probably due to HDR->SDR not working BUT hw transcoding worked, CPU hovering around 50% for that transcode.
All this is a container running on Debian 10, kernel 5.0.0. When this will go to Plex Beta i’ll test it on my main server which has some more load.
All in all happy we getting closer now.
