Windows said it had to repair my drive, so it restarted and “repaired” my drive, and now when I try to start Plex Media Server, I get the following error message from Windows:
D:\Program Files\Plex Media Server\libcurl.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator…
So my question is how to reinstall Plex without losing my library, associated data, etc. I know my music files won’t be deleted if I uninstall Plex, but I want to preserve as much data - playlists, play counts, ratings, etc. - as possible.
Any advice on how to repair this error (or even just replace this particular file with a new copy of it and see if that solves the problem)?
Ok, so I backed up the associated registry files on Windows and backed up the Plex Media Server folder, and then uninstalled Plex and Plex Media Server.
I then reinstalled Plex and Plex Media Server. I copied the Plex Media Server folder from by backup over to the correct location, and imported the registry files.
But my library doesn’t show up when I start the Media Server.
I can add a new library, but when I select my media files, it doesn’t import any of the album art, ratings, or any other metadata that I thought I restored.
What am I doing wrong? How do I “restore” my library from the metadata I backed up?
Feeling like I lost hundreds of hours of work because of a single corrupt file.
For some reason, when I backed up the Plex Media Server folder, it either didn’t back up the database files in Plug-In Support, or those files were deleted by Windows when it “repaired” my drive. Thankfully, I had one stored in an external drive from about 10 days ago, and when I placed those two database files in the Plug-In Support folder, everything seems to have been restored (with the exception of plays, ratings, etc., made in the last 10 days, which I can live with.)
Not sure there’s anything to add, although I am somewhat mystified how those files disappeared in the first place.
