First off, apologies because I’m not actually sure how to describe my issue accurately. Background is as follows: I have for several years been running PMS on a Synology NAS with no issues. For various reasons (mostly because the NAS doesn’t have the horsepower for much) I’ve decided to upgrade to a NUC to run PMS and relegate the NAS to storage duties only. I’ve successfully installed PMS on the NUC with Docker but that’s where my issues start. I followed the instructions to place the claim code in the docker-compose file but I’m currently based in China and as a result of the GFW the initial download of the image took an unexpectedly long time and I’m sure it would have been longer than the 4 minute validity of the claim code. I can access the web interface at http://myip:32400 but there’s no media and no options associated with the media server, only options for Plex web. I am assuming that my issue is with the claim code not having been valid at first run but my symptoms don’t seem consistent with the ones I’ve found online. I’ve also tried a couple of the ‘solutions’ for this and not had any luck. Kind of tearing my hair out as I can’t even figure out what to Google for! Any help greatly appreciated.
I’m not sure those are related.
The way I’ve understood it, assigning a claim is only used to automatically sign that PMS instance in with your account. It’ll not automatically configure your server or add your content.
Plex of its own will be showing you no content (except you have their online media sources enabled in which case you can e.g. use their ad-supported video on demand).
If you want to see your content, you’ll need to complete setting up the Plex Media Server and create a library, pointing to the NAS.
If you’re running PMS in a docker container, you’ll need the drive to be mounted the host platform and make it available to your container.
Thanks for the reply, Tom. I’ve just this minute managed to resolve the issue, and I’m pretty certain it was related with claiming the server. I managed to follow the instructions (with a bit of tweaking) from here and finally it all seems to be working.
