Plex Media Server Machine

I am interested in buying a NUC for a stand alone plex media server. I will only be streaming 4k with in my network with no transcodes and up to 2 1080 streams transcoded and I am wondering will something like this will do the job.

Amazon.com: New Intel 4 Cores 8 Thread i5-8279U Processor(up to 4.1Ghz),Win10 Pro Beelink Mini pc with 16G DDR4 RAM/512GB NVMe M.2 SSD, Support 4K HD Dual HDMI Display, WiFi 6, BT5.0, 4USB3.0, Gigabit Ethernet: Computers & Accessories

The CPU itself isn’t strong enough to deal with transcoding of 4K source material (4K SDR transcoding requires a Passmark score of approx. 12000, 4K HDR transcoding requires a passmark score of approx. 17000 – that CPU only delivers a score of approx. 11000). That being said… with your Plex Pass you should be able to use the built-in iGPU which is capable to transcode that for you.

Just keep in mind… the iGPU cannot handle burning-in of subtitles. So if that’s part of your use case, you might run into trouble.
