Plex Media Server (MacOS) quits immediately upon running

Server Version#: 1.40.4

Since a power failure early this morning (21st July, 2024), I have been unable to get the Plex Media Server running on my late 2014 Mac Mini (2.6Ghz dual-core Intel 8GB RAM) running MacOS Monterey 12.7.5

It does appear to try to run, as the icon flashes for a brief second in my menu bar, but it quickly disappears, and my library of shared files is still unavailable.

Any help on this?

Power failures can lead to corruption of the database.
You need to repair it.
If the repair fails, switch to one of the backups, then repair that for good measure.

I am trying this, but the problem persists.

Tried deleting com.plexapp.plugins.library.db within the PMS app contents, but it didn’t reappear when trying to boot the server again. Still just shows it’s trying to run, but immediately quits.

I’ll try some more in Terminal!!

I’ve tried reinstalling the PMS a few times now, to no avail.
Really appreciate your help, as I got further than I did on my own/browsing the forums.

Will keep you updated as to my progress.

This didn’t seem to help, as the PMS itself won’t run still.

So, I’m testing on a different computer, and get to this message:

However, there is no Plex menu in the menu bar, save for when I’m running the Plex standalone app - but even then, there is no Open Plex option.

I am able to access via a second account - was I possibly banned from using the service?

I’m just about at my wits end, so I’m giving up for the day.

If the Plex Media Server won’t start and doesn’t even get to the stage where it’ll be writing to the server logs, you can attempt the following procedure to see if there’s any error messages on the OS level:

  1. Open Finder and navigate to /Applications
  2. Select Show Content from the context menu of the Plex Media Server.app item
  3. Navigate to Contents/MacOS
  4. Open the Terminal app
  5. Drag the Plex Media Server executable from the Finder window (#3) into the Terminal Window and press Return to execute it

This is no different from running the app, so it won’t succeed – but you should get a more specific error message about what’s causing it to fail starting.

This is what is returned:

Last login: Sun Jul 21 14:36:23 on ttys000

/Applications/Plex\ Media\ Server.app/Contents/MacOS/Plex\ Media\ Server ; exit;

shutupman@Filth-Hole-Mini ~ % /Applications/Plex\ Media\ Server.app/Contents/MacOS/Plex\ Media\ Server ; exit;

Error: Unable to set up server: sqlite3_statement_backend::prepare: database disk image is malformed for SQL: PRAGMA cache_size=2048 (N4soci10soci_errorE)

Saving session…

…copying shared history…

…saving history…truncating history files…

…completed.

[Process completed]

So i see it’s a malformed disk image, but don’t know how to repair it ;(

Again, thanks so much for your assistance!

Hi,
here the issue re installing. If you don’t uninstall plex correctly as per the Link I have below, it’s a waste of time.

Sad but true…

Follow it Exactly, please. :joy:

Doing this! I thought I had checked in App Support already, but obviously didn’t
Hopefully it get the server running. I don’t mind if I have to re-add everything.

I had done a search for files with the word “plex” in them, and these folders didn’t come up.

You need to be looking in the hidden Library, From the GO menu, it will appear when you hold down the Option key.

The other Library will not have those Files.

The Tilde ~ means ** Home Library** = Hidden Library.

By not following the Uninstall correctly, will not fix your issue.

It’s working again! Thanks!
