Plex media server

Hi all,
Random question. I have recently changed my internet providers and am now using a local company to me, as such they control the router and all it’s functions. That have advised me that they don’t allow port forwarding. Does anybody know a way for me and the family to access my server whilst away from home without using a plex relay server
Thanks in advance

without port forwarding you stuck with Local "Plex Cloud" with Google Drive

The 2 do not really relate I think. Only thing that will accomplish is having your media on Google Drive and allowing you to access them anywhere but that does not mean you need to do a local Plex library at home with them.

you can mount the google drive as if a local drive and plex would behave the same. the factor is the file is already online so the player would be served the file from the google drive.

the trick here is there will be no trans-coding so the client would need to be able to direct play the file

Even this only allows you to use Plex at home. But you still cannot use your Plex server when out and about, because the ISP doesn’t allow access from the internet to a computer in your home.
The only way out of this situation is to host the Plex server itself outside your home (e.g. in a datacentre).

I had a similar problem, i was behind a double NAT, and the provider did not allow port forwarding, I pay for a static IP and this allowed me to use my server out side of my home network.

is that not the purpose of plex relay for pass holders

Plex Relay is a band aid, not a solution. It is bandwidth restricted (even for Plex Pass holders).

yes but correct me if i am wrong with direct play and a g drive the server forwards a link and does not need to much band aid for it to work. i do understand if not direct played and needing transcoding then you are correct completely

Nope. The data stream always goes through the server machine. All the clients do never contact the file storage directly.

i see … he could always host it there and when remote use vlc player or similar to play but that was not asked… i will bow out now since im at my limit for plex knowledge
