Plex Music Artwork Question

I just had to rebuild my entire music library and had a few things I couldn’t quite make sense of that I hoped someone here could. I matched all my artist and albums in Musicbrainz Picard, but some of the artist artwork still doesn’t download (they are correctly matched in Plex and the album artwork/reviews are downloaded). From my digging for a solution, it appears Musibrainz provides album artwork, but not artist. So, where does Plex Music find the artist posters AND background?

It was explained to me that it was “roughly” like this:

  1. musicbrainz is the center of the universe
  2. musicbrainz links with TiVo nee AllMusic via
    a) exact matching if MB has a link to artist/album
    b) “fuzzy” matching if not
  3. musicbrainz links with last.fm directly for popular track data
  4. musicbrainz links with fanart.tv for graphics

So essentially, all requests from Plex go through Musicbrainz, and Musicbrainz links to AllMusic, Last.FM, or Fanart.TV as needed.

And yes, Musicbrainz only has Album artwork. So if the above is complete and correct (he did say “roughly”), it should be getting Artist artwork from Fanart.TV.
