How do you deduct this? What is missing if the last.fm link is not there?

If the last.fm relationship doesn’t exist fullstop, then no metadata is pulled anywhere

When the update occurred, I ended up with 168 odd entries that couldn’t match to musicbrainz due to an artist not existing. When adding these in, sometimes I added in a last.fm relationship as I was adding them (as per this thread) or sometimes I forgot

Then, when 2 - 3 days came along and I was refreshing the data with the new entries, I noticed that all artists that had a last.fm relationship when the record was created pulled down the metadata from last.fm, but those whom I had to go back and add the link to, it never came down

A good example is Aeon Now:

Last.fm relationship was added when I inserted the record, meaning plex made the logical connection:

However, Bodies on Everest who had the last.fm relationship added after the insert is not finding anything:

Both have last.fm entries that included a bio and an image. Aeon Now’s entry matches this, but Bodies on Everest doesn’t pull down anything. Both artists are similar in terms of listeners and “popularity”, so in my mind there should be no reason that this isn’t picked up unless it’s something to do with the fact the last.fm link was added AFTER the record was inserted. In this case, the Bodies on Everest last.fm link was added on 20th October by myself

Just as an FYI, and to anyone who stumbles on here with a similar query, it seems like a month to the day when the last.fm links were added to already inserted records on musicbrainz, Plex did an update using that link as well.

Not sure if this was plex, musicbrainz or last.fm culprit, but if it was from plex, it would be nice to know how i could force it to look back on last.fm after a couple of days when the link is added

Regardless, things are trickling in now from alot of my underground music and the library is looking better than it did before!
