This is a continuation of a thread I raised last year regarding Musicbrainz to last.fm pairing for music artist bio information:
Previously, it was observed that it took about a month before any changes from musicbrainz to add a last.fm bio link were picked up by plex (not sure where the fault in the chain was, but after a month, plex seems to see the last.fm link in the musicbrainz artist relationship and uses that for artist information where an allmusic link doesn’t exist)
Unfortunately it seems like my instance isn’t picking this up anymore. I have a few artists that have been waiting for nearly 2 months for these links to update, but nothing has budged. I have done a plex dance on them in case it was a caching issue, but that yielded no results.
If I probe the musicbrainz API, I can see the relationships:
Just to note, as last time, if you are entering a brand new artist into the musicbrainz database with a last.fm link there on the initial submission, plex will pick this up in the next couple of days (as per documentation)
However, adding the link AFTER an artist has been submitted seems to now be broken. Last time this was brought up, I was told it was being sent to developers or another line of support, but I assume this is now closed as they started coming through after a month?
I can also confirm that, as mentioned in the older thread, if a last.fm link is supplied at the time a new musicbrainz entry is inserted into the MB database, it no longer picks this up as before.
To pre-empt a question regarding listener count/scrobbles, I have artists with less listeners & scrobbles that were previously pulling information down fine. Seems like an issue with how plex pulls down last.fm information down once it matches on musicbrainz (If it even attempts it now)
So I have discovered from another thread that plex caches metadata information from musicbrainz directly, as opposed to our own servers using their API? This would explain why it can take a month for changes to appear, as I suppose this happens on a monthly basis? Has there been any changes that would mean the last.fm relationship is no longer being used or picked up? Is there any alternative?
Here are logs for this morning. I tried to run a refresh on Gender Roles, which has had a last.fm relationship on musicbrainz for 2 months now, but PMS still won’t pull down any metadata
