@veeejay can you restart PMS if its still on the beta build? I wouldn’t think that the preview build should be necessary as a prerequisite here.
That did it. Tested one more time before restarting and it still wasn’t showing up.
Should have just done that in the first place. Sorry to bother!!
Now that I’ve got access to NFO Agents…
- Can you set a priority order of the metadata sources? So highest priority would be NFO, if available, and if it isn’t then it chooses Plex Movie or Plex Series?
- Relatedly, does NFO have to be set at the library level or can it be set for an individual series or film?
I restarted Plex but that didn’t fix it. Restarting the browser, which cleared the cache, did the trick. Thanks!
1 - Yes, as TommyVD pointed out, you can create a custom metadata agent.
2 - No, this isn’t something that is currently supported, but it is something that will be possible at some point in the future.
A restart to PMS might be required to have it show up.
I had a test library setup with nfo files before upgrading to the latest beta. After creating a custom metadata agent and updating the library to use it, plex wont update any of the metadata for the show that only has nfo metadata. In fact it just keeps spinning in the activity on plex. Its been this way for over 12 hours and even after restarting plex and doing a new scan, plex seems to get stuck again.
Using the newest update, it fixed a lot of things for me.
I think the only two items outstanding for me are (with Movies):
- Cast images not appearing
- Reviews (Rotten Tomatoes)
I know there are other features I’d like but the above are the only “issues/defects” I’m experiencing.
For Shows, using:
I don’t get any matches, if I manually search/match with the Plex NFO Series (Built-in agent) I get results and confirmed it is from local NFO, because using Plex Series (Built-in agent) also doesn’t give results. Is this a known issue?
Is there a list of known issues/items to complete before taking this out of Beta?
Is there a list of known issues/items to complete before taking this out of Beta?
To name a few:
- No Cast & Crew in all the ‘New Experience’ apps (iOS, Android, Roku,…). Older apps, Plex Web and third party apps still work fine.
- No generic rating support.
- No generating of collections based on tags.
- No support for local image urls for cast & crew images (like C:\Cast Images\Actor).jpg. The image has to come from an online source.
Not an issue for this IMHO, but that the new clients are behind in supporting this
After all, this is a preview, so we should not yet expect released clients to support this yet, IMHO
Question to anyone else testing the this alongside the custom metadata agents.
I keep running into an issue which I cannot pin down and is extremely temperamental. Let me describe what is happening …
Using a custom agent setup using Plex Local Media -> Plex NFO Series -> Plex Series (primary) everything works okay for a while. The metadata is scanned in, all updated okay and is displaying perfectly.
However, from time to time I then try and force refresh a show and its like the scanner / metadata refresh gets stuck / hung and won’t complete. I continually see the activity icon on the top bar spinning but it never finishes. At this point its stuck, nothing more will refresh. Restarting server, clearing cache, optimise db have no effect.
Each time it happens I need to restore my backup. Anyone else seeing this ? My gut feeling is its not the NFO agent itself but the custom agent or a combination of both. BTW… I’ve not seen this using a movie library, only a tv library.
Anyhow, anyone else seeing this. I’ll grab logs the next time this happens in case they are requested.
I’ve set it up like you described in the latest beta release.
And changed my movie library that previously used the XBMCnfoBundle to this new agent like this:
While I am happy to report that this appears to be working well for newly added movies, it does not update movies that were already in the library. Neither a full rescan nor a full refresh of the metadata nor a manual “Fix Match” seems to work.
Example of newly added movie that shows local images, edition etc. from the NFO as well as rotten tomatoes reviews from PlexMovie:
Example of preexisting movie that also has an edition (OmU) and is sure to have rotten tomatoes reviews:
Is there a way to force apply the new agent to an existing library? Since Plex only has read access to my media, the only thing I wouldn’t like to lose is the “watched” status.
Is this behavior something that you could get near to by adding some/lots of DEBUG lines of code to any of your custom agents? This time, you could at least tell what seems to be “hanging” when it’s doing so next time.
Using you backup does not sound like a way to get around it but to recover from disaster… :-/
Good that you have a current backup ![]()
Yep having the logs would be best.
Exactly. I’m using the backup/restore as I test. I was kinda hoping to switch over soon but this issue is so random and bad that I’ll probably just hold off for the time being until I have more confidence with it. Don’t want to jump on my production system before I’m sure …
A metadata refresh should work. Can you grab server logs for me?
Tried to send them to you but you don’t appear to accept direct messages.
Had to add you to the accept list, you can try again. Thanks!
Thanks… dropped you a dm with logs ![]()
