Plex No Longer Able to Boot After Moving to New Computer

Server Version#: Version 1.20.1.3252
MacOS 10.15.6

I recently got a new computer. Transferred everything over from a recent Time Machine Backup and it seemed like everything went smoothly until I tried to boot Plex. It immediately shuts back down. Log is below. Anyone able to tell me what is going on here? If it matters, the old computer was still running 10.14.6.

Based on the particular error messages you should try to repair the database

If I remember correctly, a time machine restore could cause some other trouble.
But let’s get at it one step at a time…

Followed the steps. The third one returned “Error: database disk image is malformed”.

Followed the steps for the second half about repairing and… still not launching. I’m guessing something to do with the Time Machine trouble you refer to. Should I just try copying the files from the old computer directly?

Try this:

  1. stop the Plex Media Server (in case the Plex server icon is stuck/showing in your menu bar… I suppose that step might not apply to you)
  2. open ~/Library/Preferences and rename com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist (e.g. by adding .old to the file name) – this file contains the machine identifier and some other references
  3. try restarting the server

“Starts” up even less when I do that, it seems. Before it briefly bounces in the dock before shutting down but now literally nothing.

Thanks for all the help, but unless there is something obvious left I ought to try, at this point I think it is feeling like a “put more effort into this than the most longer but reliable solution” kind of deal, so just going to do a clean restore direct from the old computer rather than Time Machine. Was hoping to avoid 5 more hours of thumb twiddling. It still boots properly there, so fingers crossed. If that doesn’t work though… I’ll be back tomorrow presumably.
