Hi, using both Plex Web and Plex Home Theatre, my default subtitles are not being automatically chosen. I have double checked that the default flag is set for these files, and when I use VLC, it automatically chooses the default sub. If there are any logs or additional information I should provide, let me know, thanks.
EDIT: To be more specific, it also does not automatically choose the forced subtitles. As an example, my Game of Thrones files have two subtitles, English for all the dialogue and English for just the foreign dialogue. The audio is an English track, and no matter what I do I cannot get it to choose the default track. It will choose the first English track when I set subtitle mode to "Always Enabled" but this is not the default subtitle track, and I would like to include both the full subtitle track and the forced/default subtitles in my mkv files. Is there anyway for Plex to choose the default automatically like VLC does?
I don't believe Plex reads the default flag in mkv files. Plex choices the subtitle (and audio file too i believe) based on the preferred language you specified for PMS. If your preferred is english and you have 2 english subtitles, Plex will just pick the first one.

Plex does read and respect the Forced and Default Track Flags. However --

This however is true. If the file contains multiple tracks for the same type for the same language then it will simply use the first ordered track in the file.
@ OP -- I'd recommend you ReMux the files to where your prefered track is first.
Don't your statements contradict each other? It respects the forced and default flag but then decides to use the first stream, which means it doesn't enforce the flag. Or do you mean it just enforces the language choice?
Or do you mean it just enforces the language choice?
The Logic system doesn't extend to multiples of the same language, only between different languages.
IE, I have FMA (Japanese Anime) that has Japanese & English Audio & 2 English tracks (one SSA and one SRT). I have Plex set to default to English Audio and English Subtitles. However, on these files (initial load into plex) will select Japanese Audio (MKV Default) and the SSA English Subtitle Track (MKV Default).
Ok. So it will choose the default when they are different languages, but the first when they are the same language. So I should keep my default subtitles first. Gonna be a pain in the ass to change it. Seems silly that there is no logic to choose the default when both options are of the same language.
How is this from 2014?
Where the hell do I vote or submit a request cause I believe that among the Global preferred language settings for both Audio and Subtitles there should be an entry for “default” flags.
Other then that I’d vote that there could be similar setting specific to the library or series In which the files are present (Per series might be better IMO).
Either it breaks my Anime library or the rest of my media and manual editing of the MKV files is still required to remedy the issue as it stands.
Edit: It also doesn’t seem to respect “Forced” flags best I can do is reorder the streams so the one I want takes precedence as opposed to outright removing the others.
