If I watch titles on one device, then open Plex on another device, things are not in sync. For example I finish watching episode #2 of a show (with say 20 minutes left) and then watch episode #3 on my ipad, then the next day open Plex on my Apple TV it shows episode #2 with 20 minutes left still.
Am I missing a setting or something? It’s driving me nuts.
That sounds correct to me. If you still have 20 minutes left, then that episode isn’t finished, so it will still show up under “Continue Watching” and “OnDeck”. You need to finish watching or mark it as finished for it to go away and go to the next unwatched episode.
Hey @anon18523487 - I believe they are saying that they finish watching episode #2 and then watch episode #3 on the iPad and then the next day go back to the Apple TV and it shows they still need to finish #2.

Ah, I was reading it differently. So OP, to be clear, episode 2 had 20 minutes left, you finish watching it, then watched episode 3. On the Apple TV it still shows that episode 2 has 20 minutes left, like it had before.
If so, that sounds like the home page on the iOS didn’t update correctly. Just need to refresh the page. I’m not actually sure how to do that in the iOS app, as I don’t have an iOS device. If it’s like the Android app, you just need to swipe down on the screen to refresh.
That’s just an example. It happens between all devices. I know about the swipe to refresh in ios, but haven’t found anything similar on PC or Apple TV.
I have the app on a Roku too & have the same issues.
I can watch on PC, then another device and they’re not synced or vise versa.
It’s like my “last played” settings are saved per device instead of per user if that makes sense.
The watched status is saved on your server. The clients retrieve this information from the server. It is possible that if the app is open on 1 client while content is watched on another client, the status will not update unless the client identifies a need for it. Unfortunately, this information is not pushed from the server, it needs to be requested from the client, which is why a refresh is needed in some cases. So if a Plex client is just sitting on the home page, there is nothing to trigger the refresh. On the TV apps, a refresh can often be achieved by visiting another page and then returning to the home screen.
